IFRC also adheres to strict child safeguarding principles. The Department of Communications is part of the Global Relations, Humanitarian Diplomacy and Digitalization Division. There are four team in the Department, including the Strategic Communications and Internal Engagement Unit. The Senior Communications Monitoring and Analysis Officer reports to the Manager of the Unit and plays a key role in communications monitoring and analysis efforts for the Department.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation workplan, ensuring alignment with departments’ objectives.
  • Establish monitoring and analysis systems, utilizing advanced tools to track IFRC’S public sentiment and perception.
  • Monitor and analyse current events and public opinion, identifies issues and trends in the humanitarian field and IFRC’s share of voice.
  • Draw on media coverage to ascertain the public sentiment vis-à-vis IFRC and its leadership.
  • Conduct research and provide regular reports with analysis of perception and positioning of the IFRC and its leadership, both qualitative and quantitative, covering traditional and social media.
  • Identify and compile research and open-source findings on misinformation and disinformation relevant to IFRC. Provide recommendations to address mis conceptions and adapt outreach priorities accordingly.
  • Interpret data and produce concrete recommendations and advice for management on appropriate actions.
  • Stay abreast of changing developments, trends, monitoring tools and technologies. Continuously refine and implement process improvement opportunities for collection, analysis, and interpretation of data.
  • Select and manage tracking tools to provide accurate and timely monitoring of communications platforms.
  • Manage the relationship with monitoring tool providers.
  • Monitor media coverage of priority issues and/or major events.
  • Set up and manage monitoring dashboards, focused on real time earned media and social media to track humanitarian news updates and IFRC mentions.
  • Set up and manage monitoring dashboards for all owned social platforms and works with social media colleagues on community management activities (e.g., helps develop automated response for specific queries).
  • Build dashboards to provide a comprehensive performance overview and identify the best-performing content for leadership.
  • Develop an understanding of key audiences and platforms.
  • Provide detailed feedback on the impact of communications strategies, messages, and products on desired audiences to ensure all communications activities are audience focused.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Department on developing KPIs and metric measurements.
  • Contribute to the refinement of communications strategies by providing feedback on the impact of those strategies and offer recommendations based on the monitoring and analysis results.
  • Monitor and assess the success of communications activities around Strategy 2030 and Agenda for Renewal priorities

Education:

  • A first-level university degree in communications, marketing, public relations, data science/analytics, political science, international relations, public administration, or related field.
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in the above fields, data science, digital communications or related field.

Experience

  • A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in communications/media/digital/social media communications monitoring, analysis, and presentation. 
  • Experience using one or more media monitoring software tools.
  • Proven expertise in providing qualitative and quantitative media analysis for a large international organization. 
  • Experience monitoring and analysing mis- and disinformation.
  • Experience writing search terms in Boolean search language.
  • Experience with developing reports for large organizations.
  • Experience using Google Analytics and its various functionalities.
  • Experience using statistical processing software.
