The ECRS is a source of expertise for clients and Deloitte practitioners on the direction and impact of regulatory change across industry and its implications for firms’ business models and strategies. Eminence and insights are at the heart of Deloitte’s client strategy, and the ECRS is a critical part of delivering that.Regulation relevant to competition in digital markets, and consumer protection in digital services, is a key part of the activities of the ECRS digital markets team. This is an exciting and fast-moving area with regulatory developments that are having a significant impact on both the economy and wider society. From social media to search, app stores to AI and online choice architecture to cloud; all of it is within the team’s remit. We are now hiring a consultant to join the ECRS Digital markets regulation team. Working in the ECRS you will be expected to help shape our digital markets agenda, have an unparalleled opportunity to develop strategic thinking, and apply your knowledge of international, European and national digital markets regulation.   • support the tracking, research and analysis of upcoming digital markets policy and regulatory developments, relevant to competition and consumer protection topics;
  • help to determine the critical issues and their strategic implications for our clients in close collaboration with other Deloitte regulatory specialists;
  • help identify relevant topics for assessment as the regulatory landscape develops;
  • draft client briefing notes, presentations, blogs and reports to disseminate our insights; and
  • support the ECRS management team and operations.

  • Demonstrate a keen interest in and willingness to learn about digital markets regulation, particularly relevant to competition and consumer protection
  • Be curious and able to research complex and challenging topics;
  • Be able to process large amounts of information, summarise it effectively, picking out the most important issues;
  • Have good writing and presentation skills;
  • Be organised, hard-working, a self-starter and a team player; and
  • Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Apps (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).

Other desirable (but not essential) skills and experience include:

  • Academic qualifications in one of the following fields: law/regulation, business and economics, computer science or data analytics.
  • Prior experience in dealing with regulation relevant to digital markets. Previous experience could be within large technology companies, start-ups, regulators, trade associations, thinktanks, government departments or legal/consulting firms.
  • Prior experience in producing clear and compelling articles, reports, and/or presentations;
  • Awareness of EU/UK policy and rule-making process and regulatory developments relevant to digital markets;
  • Understanding of how technology firms and digital markets operate; and
  • Proven ability to build relationships quickly with a variety of stakeholders.

We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints. This can mean that you and your “Immediate Family Members” are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm.
