Position: Consultant to conduct a fundraising strategy review

Purpose and objective
LFJL is currently at a critical point in its development, having grown significantly over the past two years and with projects coming to the end of multiple year grants from states donors. LFJL is now in the need of diversifying its income streams. For this reason, it is looking to hire a consultant to assist in drafting a comprehensive fundraising strategy, aligned with LFJL’s new Strategic Plan, with a focus on securing multi-year funding for all objectives.
The purpose of this assignment is for the consultant to assess LFJL’s fundraising approach in close collaboration with key members of its team (including those responsible for private and institutional fundraising, communications, and management), and to support LFJL in developing a fundraising strategy through concrete recommendations.
The specific objectives are to:
Scope and focus of the assignment
- Review LFJL’s current fundraising approach and practices (successful and unsuccessful)
- Define LFJL’s needs, fundraising priorities and goals, in view of the current situation and LFJL’s Strategic Plan
- Analyse current and past donors and partnership/funding agreements or practices
- Map potential funding segments, focusing on those with strong alignment to LFJL’s strategic priorities
- Identify and provide tools to support the identification of new and potential donors who support programs that are in line with LFJL’s goals
- Offer concrete recommendations for cultivating relationships with key funders and potential partners
- Identify networking opportunities that could directly lead to funding prospects, and on how to engage potential funders effectively
Scope and focus of the assignment
The scope and focus of the assignment are to provide technical and strategic support to ensure an efficient and effective fundraising strategy.
Deliverables and timeframe
This assignment is expected to require approximately 10 to 15 consultancy days. The assignment should start as soon as possible, and the following deliverables should be completed within a two-month period:
- A written report on assessment findings on LFJL’s fundraising practices, specific recommendations on expanding LFJL’s donor base, identifying new prospects, actionable strategies for cultivating relationships with current donors, and opportunities.
- First draft of a fundraising strategy.
- Final draft fundraising strategy incorporating LFJL’s feedback on the first draft.
- List of actionable leads and analysis of potential new funding segments.
Skills and competencies
- Familiarity with the non-profit human rights sector, particularly for justice-focused organisations working in the MENA region
- Proven network of stakeholders across various grant-making entities
- Experience in conducting fundraising assessments/audits, and developing fundraising strategy for NGOs
- Experience in digital fundraising
- Excellent communication and drafting skills
- A track record in securing programmatic and core funding and demonstrable know-how in donor relations, including private donors, and/or experience working within grant-making entities in the context of human rights programs.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills in English (Arabic an asset)
