The successful candidate will work with a dedicated team of online editors and journalists who produce a range of national and local news content for both broadcast and digital. This position reports into the Director of National Online News. This is a Group 2 position in the current Collective Agreement.You will contribute by:

• Reviewing content prior to publication online to ensure it meets the Global News mission, aligns with CP style, and accords with journalism standards.
• Ensuring stories are prepared with best practices for SEO to boost audience reach.
• Prioritizing editing projects to ensure efficient turnaround.
• Mentoring newer journalists
• Working supportively and collaboratively with journalists of all levels of experience
• Developing and delivering training in journalism skills

Skills and experience you will bring:

• Post-secondary degree or diploma in journalism or a related field
• At least five years of experience working in an online newsroom.
• Strong knowledge of libel law and other legal issues
• Expert knowledge of CP Style
• Strong grasp of WordPress VIP and familiarity with other content management systems
• Strong news judgment
• Thorough understanding of SEO
• Passion for multi-platform journalism
• Ability to work in a rapidly changing, dynamic environment.
• Motivated, self-starter, independent, results-oriented and professional
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• Willingness to innovate, explore new ideas and acquire new skills.
• Drive, determination, attention to detail and commitment to excellence.
