DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Houston Health Department’s Aging section is currently searching for an applicant who will provide excellent Customer Service to Harris County seniors 60 years of age or older.

Essential Functions are as follows:

  1. Experience in programs and services available to consumers through the Harris County Area Agency on Aging and Care Connection Aging Disability Resource Center with the ability to understand the needs of consumers to provide information and referrals.

  2. Use effective problem-solving techniques to provide efficient telephone customer service as well as walk-in customer service.

  3. Work with the customer service supervisor and program manager to identify organizational needs that would enhance quality service for our consumers.

  4. Strong data entry skills and ability to input accurate and timely data into our statewide record management system (Wellsky/ SPURS).

  5. Conducts follow-ups to ensure clients receive satisfactory services and research additional resources needed to assist consumers.

  6. Participate in HCAAA outreach events as required.

  7. Must possess flexibility and high-quality assurance skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position is physically comfortable most of the time with occasional periods of stooping, bending and/or light lifting of materials of up to 10 pounds. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a monitor.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Requires a high school diploma or a GED.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Two (2) years of administrative or customer service related experience are required.

Substitution: Associate’s degree may be substituted for up to two (2) years of experience.

PREFERENCES

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, strong ability to prioritize tasks and duties, critical thinking skills with the ability to multitask, excellent written and oral communication skills, and great interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with and work with all facets of the organization.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, Excel, etc.

  • In addition, preference shall be given to eligible applicants proficient in The State’s data management systems (Wellsky) and a work history of working with Aging programs.

SALARY INFORMATION GRANT FUNDED

Grants & Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate’s qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
