S’more about the teamOur Data Team supports HelloFresh Canada in delivering best-in-class data products to grow our business. Within that, the Data Engineer is responsible for designing scalable and automated data flows using various big data tools and platforms (including, but not limited to AWS, Spark, Airflow, and Databricks) and supporting organizational adoption of new data and automation infrastructure. They will also play a key role in the implementation of HelloFresh Canada’s Snowflake based operational data warehouse. Reporting to the Lead, Data Engineering, this role will develop and maintain datasets, analyze raw data, and improve data quality and efficiency systematically across the organization.Lettuce share what this role will be responsible for

• Work with a talented team of fellow data engineers, analysts and scientists to support various functional stakeholder groups across the business.
• Design, implement and maintain data ingestion pipelines.
• Design and implement automated ETL pipelines to feed data science models and business intelligence applications.
• Identify, design and implement internal process improvements including re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes.
• Leverage our existing data platform and collaborate with data scientists to deploy machine learning models.
• Support the development and maintenance of our operational database.
• Support the adoption of new data tools and infrastructure, including the seamless deprecation of legacy systems, where applicable.
• Advocate for data quality, data governance and data product thinking, including driving initiatives behind this as needed (including leading training workshops, etc.).
• Participate in the development and maintenance of the documentation of critical infrastructure, data systems, data tables and data flows for stakeholder use.
• Contribute to the creation of data artifacts for knowledge socialization to drive data fluency and adoption.
• Enhance current data workflows and reporting capabilities to boost data quality and reliability
• All other duties, as assigned

Sound a-peeling? Here’s what we’re looking for

• 3-5 years of experience in data engineering roles, projects and/or building data pipelines
• 2-3 years of experience in Python (functional and object-oriented programming), and the ability to implement and deliver high-quality code
• Advanced proficiency in SQL, data modelling and database design, including experience working with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL)
• Experience using command line tools and version control systems (GitHub)
• Familiarity with core Amazon Web Services (EC2 and S3)
• The ability to design ETL pipelines for workflow management using tools such as Airflow
• Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes
• Experience with real-time streaming technologies such as Kafka
• The ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
