Department Overview
Sitting within Rakuten Payment Inc’s System Division, the Cross Service Development Department (XSDD) plays a crucial role in this. XSDD focuses on business-
critical initiatives across our products and platforms. Our vision is to build and shape payment technologies that support our users’ daily lives now and into the future.

The Data Services Group builds data products, provides insights for a wide variety of audiences and drives our data driven culture in Rakuten Payment.

At the Data Service Group, we are committed to maintaining and enhancing our data capabilities to better serve the needs of the Rakuten Group and Rakuten Payment. For this position, we are looking for a person support the development of our Data Platform and contribute to its success.
Position Details
– Contribute to development and growth of the Payment Data Platform.
– Collaborate with other team members to achieve common goals and deliver value together.
– Support Data Science team to enable reliable and secure access to the data.
– Communicate and integrate with other teams, posing as data owners.
Work Environment
The Data Services Group operates as a long-lived organisation with a clear scope and ownership of a part of the system. It is divided into two teams, focused on Data Platform support and Data Science related research.The team consists of both new-graduate and mid-career members, coming from both industry and academia backgrounds.
• The team uses a combination of private and public clouds (Azure, considering GCP).
• Internal data dashboards, utilised across the company including being on display in the office, utilise Grafana and InfluxDB.
• Data Pipelines are based on Debezium in order to extract data from SQL-based origins.
Mandatory Qualifications:
– Previous experience as a data engineer or equivalent.
– Experience with Public Cloud (preferably Azure and/or GCP).
– Proficiency in SQL database design.
– Understanding of application/system security.
– Communication and collaboration skills, ability to work well in a team.
– Excitement to work in a multicultural, international working environment.
Desired Qualifications:
– Hands-on experience with data pipelining, message brokers (Kafka, Redpanda, etc.).
– Experience with visual design for the presentation of data.
– Experience in other technical roles such as software engineer, data analyst, data engineer, data scientist.
– Experience developing software using modern languages and practices.
– Interest in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and/or similar areas.
