DescriptionPosition at MOZ GroupJob PostingMoz is making major investments in our engineering team! This role is an exciting opportunity to join a team that is growing rapidly and positioned for success. We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Data Platform and Data Services teams.
If you’re passionate about leading high-performing engineering teams, this is an exciting opportunity for you. The Data Platform Team is focused on improving (and then transforming) a suite of backend services that power our SEO product. The Data Services Team is responsible for analytics and services used in/by Moz products built atop the data platform. We’re making major investments to enhance our customer experience by making these services more reliable and easier to maintain over time and you’ll lead this effort alongside senior engineers on the team.

• Provide leadership and guidance to technical leads, software engineers and data scientist, ensuring alignment with company goals and maintaining platform performance, reliability, and security and cost efficiency.
• This is an exciting opportunity to build a team and significantly grow its membership. You’ll drive hiring for the team, helping us find and retain the right talent we need to significantly improve our services. Performing ongoing training and development, performance evaluations, coaching, and recruiting.
• Foster innovation, collaboration, and ownership within the team, emphasizing continuous improvement and agile practices.
• Collaborate with other engineering, customer success, and product teams to understand customer needs and develop technical solutions.
• Be a problem solver and push the boundaries of what’s possible.
• Work in a highly collaborative environment to share information and improve processes among the entire department.

Experience We Want to See

• You have 3+ years of experience leading engineers as a manager or technical lead including experience coaching and developing senior engineers.
• You have 10+ years of experience of working as a software professional in various technical roles practicing SDLC
• You have 2+ years experience in Agile development and delivery practices.
• You have experience increasing the reliability of existing backend services using observability, standardizing deployment, etc.
• You are proficient in one of the object-oriented languages such as Python, Ruby or Java (GoLang & JavaScript are a plus) .
• You have experience developing against PB+ data
• You have demonstrated the ability to assess the current state of services and make strategic recommendations about how they should evolve. Includes management of technical debt and risks to the business.
• You have a robust knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as Hadoop/AWS EMR, Databases (SQL/No-SQL), Docker, Kubernetes/ECS and Amazon Web Services (AWS), Github and how to utilize them in a CI/CD environment and ETL development. Working knowledge of any public cloud offering such as GCP or Azure is sufficient too.
• You have experience in actively overseeing on-call, providing architectural feedback, and managing releases positions to enable you to lead your team effectively, drive continuous improvement, and deliver high-quality, reliable solutions that meet the needs of your customers and the business.
• You have a working knowledge of the systems that make up modern web applications, including APIs, micro-services, distributed backend systems, and relational and non-relational databases.
