Small enough that your impact’s felt in the business, but big enough that your impact reaches millions of people.The roleThis is an exciting opportunity to be an integral part of ITV’s Commercial Technology and Change organisation. You’ll be a member of the Product team within the AI, ML & data science community, working with cross-functional teams at the forefront of defining and delivering ITV’s Commercial Technology products and supporting our ambition to support our Linear and VOD inventory workflows, systems and insights.You’ll have a significant influence on ITV’s success in this area with strong backing and support from ITV leadership across Commercial Technology.The role will entail but not be limited to:

  • Scoping & Shaping: Support the scoping and shaping of data science focussed initiatives, including earlier discovery phases as needed. Able to gather functional requirements from business teams and translate a business problem into a machine learning solution. Demonstrate a strong understanding of that business problem and evaluate the best approach based upon a range of business factors. Learn from experiences when developing new approaches and solutions for data products with the awareness that these should be optimal fit for the outcome needed.
  • Planning & Roadmap: Contribute ideas for data driven solutions to add value to the business when possible.
  • Definition & Delivery: With support where needed, design a solution from model training to deployment, which evaluates the best approach to solving the business opportunity or problem, taking business factors into account. Collaborate on innovations, helping to shape, develop prototypes, test and optimise data science capabilities. Identify the right way to productionise a data science application in a standard context and be able to complete a standard project with support where needed, evidencing clear, readable, well documented and tested scripts, and being able to debug code, fix small bugs and troubleshoot when needed. Able to clearly communicate to the delivery team regarding the project steps, identifying blockers and estimating effort. Work closely with engineering (data, ML and software) to provide seamless and optimal deployment of data science solutions throughout the product delivery lifecycle.
  • Transition: With support, provide guidance, training and expertise where possible to the transition of data science developments into smooth operational running, including with business teams to embed data solutions for maximum outcome.
  • Acceptance: Participate in QA acceptance processes, particularly with a focus on data quality ensuring the product is fit for purpose for business teams.
  • Support: With support, respond to inbound support queries around data products and issues, offering data science experience and explanations where possible.
  • Data Science Expertise: Select the best approach and metric for solutions using the understanding of the business domain and objectives and be able to clearly explain that rationale. Demonstrate a t-shaped orientation to both data science and more general data expertise enabling collaboration for optimal solutions.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

  • Extensive experience with both supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms, particularly with classification and regression techniques, hyperparameter optimisation and feature selection/reduction techniques to achieve optimal models.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical techniques such as hypothesis testing, regression analysis, Bayesian methods, distributions, and time series analysis.
  • Experience of pyspark and spark ecosystem engineering, and writing production-level Python code, ensuring high standards of software quality in terms of performance, reliability, and maintainability, including the use of type hints, unit testing, and code reviews, as well as monitoring and alerting best practices.
  • Experience with MLflow for managing the machine learning lifecycle, including experimentation, reproducibility, and deployment.
  • Experience with model explainability techniques and tools (e.g., SHAP, LIME) to interpret and communicate the results of machine learning models, as well as data visualisation tools and libraries (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn) to create meaningful and insightful visualisations.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including ML / data / software engineering teams & with business stakeholders.
  • Good communication skills with some experience of articulating the power of data and data science and being able to explain data science concepts and approaches in a clear and simple manner, at an appropriate level of detail for a given audience.

Other things we’re looking for (key criteria)

  • Experience working with cloud platforms
  • Knowledge of web frameworks for building APIs, such as Flask or FastAPI.
  • Ideally, experience with Amazon SageMaker for building, training, and deploying machine learning models at scale.
  • Potential experience with neural networks and deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch).
  • Experience of working in fast-moving, learning-based and agile environments.
  • Interest in digital media or the TV landscape
