Database engineerAs a database engineer, you will provide solutions for multiple database technologies, and will be responsible for fast-paced, complex distributed database environments supporting both OLTP and OLAP systems across multiple platforms. This role requires you to be able to rapidly troubleshoot complex technical problems under pressure, implement solutions that are massively scalable, while managing multiple customer groups.We practice a remote first working model, leveraging in person interactions at our head office, in beautiful Vancouver, BC, for strategic, collaborative and social purposes.What you’ll do:Work closely alongside the development, application and testing teams during project design, build, testing through to deployment phasesProvide operational work and be on-call to provide additional supportCollaborate with teams to understand database needs and supportDesign automation solutions for provisioning and maintenanceDevelop scripts and workflows for database tasksEnsure security and compliance standards and monitor and troubleshoot processesPromote best practices for schema evolution and testingImprove database performance and offer expert guidance on database designCreate documentation, training and stay updated on emerging technologies for continuous improvementWhat we’re looking for:5+ years of experience in database administration, development, and performance managementProficiency in NoSQL, CosmosDB or CouchbaseProficiency in relational database management systems, such as Oracle, SQL ServerExperience with Microsoft AzureProficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, and database scriptingSkills in version control systems like Github or BitbucketStrong emphasis on CI/CD pipeline development and managementStrong analytical, problem-solving, and technical leadership skillsWhy you’ll love it here:Remote-first work environmentEmployee discounts on awesome tech from day oneFlexible health benefits and wellness programTFSA and RRSP programs100% matched company pension planTraining programs to build new and transferable skillsAbout Best BuyAs Canada’s destination for the coolest tech, Best Buy offers one of the best work environments in the country!
