Reporting to the VP Audit Services, the Director is responsible for leading business process audit and advisory activities for Emera Inc. and all operating companies in Canada, the US and The Caribbean. The Director is responsible for maintaining relationships with affiliate senior leadership teams as well as regularly reporting to applicable Boards of Directors and Executives on Audit & Advisory activities.We at Emera are proud of our Audit Services team and the ways in which they contribute to our organization. We are a large, diverse, complex organization with multiple business units that will offer challenge and career growth.As Director, Audit Services your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading assurance and advisory engagements and providing technical expertise.
  • Managing a professional audit team based in Canada, the US, and the Caribbean (including external consultants/contractors) and providing ongoing leadership/ mentorship to team members.
  • Maintaining relationships with senior leadership and gaining consensus regarding potentially contentious or sensitive items.
  • Staying informed on risks and strategic initiatives impacting the business.
  • Monitoring remediation associated with previous audit issues; providing ongoing consultation on remediation approach; and escalating concerns and presenting status updates to senior leadership and Boards of Directors.
  • Ongoing leadership/mentorship of team members including on-the-job training, facilitating team sessions, etc.
  • Seek to continuously improve audit and advisory activities to become more efficient and effective through optimization and automation.
  • Completing annual audit and advisory planning for Emera and its affiliates; adapting based on changing priorities and emerging risks.
  • Assist VP, Audit Services with completion of quarterly Emera consolidated Audit Committee report.

You bring leadership, confidence, and decision-making capability, along with enthusiasm and energy.What Skills will make you successful?You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and possess many, if not all, of the skills and experience listed below:

  • Postgraduate degree in business, accounting, technology or related discipline.
  • CPA designation, complemented by an audit certification such as CIA, CISA.
  • Minimum of seven to ten years in an audit, risk and control environment with three years in an audit leadership role.
  • Experience leading internal audit portfolios in a dynamic, complex organizational structure.
  • Strong knowledge of IIA standards, including Global Internal Audit Standards.
  • Expert knowledge of audit concepts and techniques as well as a broad understanding of enterprise risk, corporate governance, and process and control design.
  • Experience implementing internal control programs, financial and operational processes while considering strategic objectives and broad implications.
  • Proven ability to remain focused and deliver results in a rapidly changing and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong influencing, communication, analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work inclusively with various individuals to achieve shared objectives and maintain effective business relationships.
