Job description

Director – Commercial and Strategic Advisory – Clean MoleculesAbout Baringa:
We set out to build the world’s most trusted consulting firm – creating lasting impact for clients and pioneering a positive, people-first way of working. We work with everyone from FTSE 100 names to bright new start-ups, in every sector.You’ll find us collaborating shoulder-to-shoulder with our clients, from the big picture right down to the detail: helping them define their strategy, deliver complex change, spot the right commercial opportunities, manage risk, or bring their purpose and sustainability goals to life. Our clients love how we get to know what makes their organisations tick – slotting seamlessly into their teams and being proudly geeky about solving their challenges.As a Certified B Corporation®, we’ve proven that we’ve built social and environmental good into every bit of what we do.We have hubs in Europe, the US, Asia and Australia, and we work all around the world – from a wind farm in Wyoming to a boardroom in Berlin. Find us wherever there’s a challenge to be tackled and an impact to be made.Our Power and Low Carbon Solutions practice is looking for a business builder to drive Clean Molecules advisory in Northern European markets.Our market leading Power and Low Carbon Solutions (PLCS) team is looking to hire a business builder who can support the growth of our market and commercial advisory offering in clean molecules value chains across Northern European markets, with a focus on Benelux, Germany, and the Nordics.You will be joining our dynamic and growing Power and Low Carbon Solutions practice. We work with a range of clients from across the energy value chain – covering utilities, oil & gas cos, network companies, commodities traders, industrials, and institutional investors – to help them successfully navigate the energy transition. Baringa is differentiated through its ability to leverage our fundamental understanding of market, technical, commercial and regulatory drivers of value and risk to help clients develop projects, deploy capital or launch new products and services that help decarbonise our economy.Deep decarbonisation of “hard-to abate” sectors – industrial process & manufacturing, heavy good transport, waste management – will require the deployment of novel technologies and value chains that are currently in their infancy: Hydrogen, E-Fuels, Biofuels, Carbon Capture and Storage. We are building a market leading multidisciplinary “Clean Molecules” team that bring investment grade market, technical, regulatory and commercial advice to client mandates across the project investment lifecycle; from understanding these emerging and interconnected market opportunities, to optimising the development and investment approach for specific projects or portfolios; with the ultimate aim of helping unlock capital to these (often) first-of-a-kind projects and create value across such complex value chains. We are a flexible, entrepreneurial and non-hierarchical team with a collaborative and curious ethos and a global perspective. What you will be doingWe are looking to hire a business leader who can expand further our presence and drive the growth of our Clean Molecules advisory offering across Northern European markets, with a particular focus on Benelux, Germany and the Nordics. We are looking for someone capable and eager to support the holistic development of the business across all facets:

  • You will be part of a global senior leadership team, collaboratively helping shape and execute our strategy and commercial propositions in Northern Europe, e.g.:
  • Deals strategy (M&A and debt financing);
  • investment or development strategy;
  • commercial optimisation and off-take structuring;
  • policy design, support & advocacy;
  • bid advisory & competitor analysis / benchmarking.
  • You will be responsible for building our brand presence in the market and engaging with key clients across strategics (utilities and IOCs), independent developers, financial advisors and infra/PE funds.
  • You will be responsible for originating consulting opportunities, providing deep sector expertise, supporting the team in the delivery and ensuring QA of high-quality deliverables.
  • You will be identifying, developing and curating existing and new IP assets and modelling capability that will enable us to provide market leading investment and strategic advice.
  • You will take responsibility for investing in the junior team and identifying and filling key capability gaps and recruitment needs.

Your skills and experienceWe recruit individuals at all levels based on merit. Don’t worry about ‘fitting into a quota’; if you can demonstrate some of the skills we are after we would love to hear from you. Some of the key sills we are looking for:

  • Upward of 10 years+ of experience in the energy sector, a significant proportion of which should be related to the Clean Molecules.
  • A fundamental understanding of the Clean Molecules space and key value drivers. Awareness of key players, projects, regulation and market drivers globally, but particularly Northern European markets (eg. Benelux, Germany, Nordics).
  • Clean Molecules experience in one or more of the following categories, either as an advisor or principal:
  • Project development and investment
  • Corporate strategy
  • Market research, trading and risk management
  • Policy development and market change
  • Strong project management, business acumen and analytical capabilities.
  • Collaborative approach and excellence in people management and career development.
  • Excellent communication skills, being able to provide clear recommendations on deal and project key value drivers, risks and upsides.
  • Flexibility and ability to shuffle different priorities within a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in building strong working relationships with clients or partners.

Baringa is a People First company and wellbeing is at the forefront of our culture. We recognise the importance of work-life balance and flexible working and provide our staff amazing benefits. Some of these benefits include:

In addition to this, we have introduced our 5-Year Recharge benefit which allows all employees an additional 2 weeks of paid leave after 5 years continuous service.
  • Flexible Working: We know that the ‘ideal’ work-life balance will vary from person to person and change at different stages of our working lives. To accommodate this, we have implemented a hybrid working policy and introduced more flexibility around taking unpaid leave.
  • Corporate Responsibility Days: Our world is important to us, so all our employees get 3 every year to help social and environmental causes and increase our impact on the communities that mean the most to us.
  • Wellbeing Fund: We want to encourage all employees to take charge and prioritise their own wellbeing. We’ve introduced our annual People Fund to support this by offering every individual a fund to support and manage their wellbeing through an activity of their choice.
