Job Description

The Director of IT Strategy and Planning partners with the CIO and IT leadership to define and implement the enterprise’s technology vision. This role ensures IT aligns with business priorities by driving strategy, governance, and operational excellence, transforming IT into a business outcome-driven organization while fostering a collaborative culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategy & Governance: Develop and implement IT strategic planning and governance frameworks to align IT priorities with business goals.

  • Performance & Reporting: Monitor IT performance, create tailored scorecards, and deliver reports to stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.

  • Portfolio Management: Oversee IT portfolio prioritization, resourcing, and alignment, including managing enterprise-wide digital transformation initiatives.

  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks and issues related to IT operations and projects, ensuring timely resolution.

  • Supplier Management: Manage supplier relationships, contracts, and performance to maximize business value.

  • Leadership: Act as a change agent, shaping IT culture and advancing IT as a strategic, business-focused partner.

This position requires visionary leadership, strategic insight, and operational expertise to drive innovation and deliver measurable business outcomes.

Minimum Requirements

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, business administration, or Information Technology related discipline.

  • 10 + years of experience in leadership roles with direct report responsibilities, preferably in an IT or related organization.

  • Proven experience in developing and implementing IT Strategies that align with business objectives.

  • Proven track record managing large scale IT projects to deliver intended outcomes on time and within budget.

  • Experience in establishing and maintaining governance activities that ensure compliance, alignment and efficient use of resources.

  • Solid understanding of current technologies and how they can be leveraged to meet business goals

  • Experience leading process improvement projects.

  • Experience in negotiating and managing relationships with technology and service vendors to ensure best value and service.

  • Experience managing cross-functional teams through complex projects, and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong business acumen and proficient understanding of IT in the Life Science space including the ability to make decisions linked to the organization’s strategy.

  • Ability to identify, assess and mitigate risks associated with IT operations and projects.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and project management skills.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, especially the ability to effectively impart complex or technical subjects to diverse audiences including executives.

  • Strong understanding of ITIL, COBIT, and other IT governance frameworks.

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and develop a team, engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Ability to focus on desired results to deliver customer and user experience and business outcomes.

  • Broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions, and strategic application to business needs, including the ability to differentiate between a relevant trend and hype.

Organizational Relationship/Scope:

Reports directly to the CIO with global accountability, engaging daily with IT leadership and staff, collaborating with senior and executive leaders, and interfacing with vendors and external technology leaders.
