Job Description:Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster, and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.At Metrolinx, equity, diversity, and inclusion are essential to living our values of serving with passion, thinking forward and playing as a team.Our Strategy and Centers of Excellence office is looking for a Director, Lean Centre of Excellence that leads a blended team to help deploy Lean management across Metrolinx. Reporting to the Vice President, Strategy and Centres of Excellence, the Director, Lean Centre of Excellence partners with senior leadership teams, uses Lean, six sigma, and continuous improvement to promote improvements and initiatives across Metrolinx to ensure Lean thinking and techniques are being used and supported.What will I be doing?
- Provide strategic leadership to ensure Lean operational goals are delivered consistent with the corporation’s strategy, policies, and procedures.
- Work with members of the Senior Management Team (SMT), and leaders across the organization regarding workplans, organizational programs, and opportunities
- Lead the direction and maturity of the Lean Centre of Excellence, including specialized training, coaching, tools, techniques, frameworks, and knowledge hub.
- Provide training and coaching to high level executives, management, and teams on the use of Lean tools and techniques.
- Lead a team of lean professionals in the Centre of Excellence responsible for the strategic leadership and execution of the enterprise-wide Lean program. The Lean Centre of Excellence works to ensuring that Lean principles are deeply embedded across the organization to deliver sustained value and enhance operational efficiency.
- Serve as a change ambassador to senior stakeholders and staff across all business units.
- Build internal Lean capabilities within Metrolinx, oversee and facilitate the mapping and streamlining of processes and identifies policies, procedures and business practices that can be improved and simplified
- Support Divisional and Cross-functional identification and delivery of improvement projects on behalf of the Lean COE and Metrolinx Senior Leadership team through coaching and facilitation
- Promote the usage of Lean techniques, such as visual management/control rooms, team huddles, value stream mapping, DMAIC and execution of kaizen improvement projects.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of a Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Analytics or a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in driving transformational change in large and complex organization using Lean or Six Sigma, Operations Excellence, Strategic Program Management, Process Engineering or a blend of these disciplines.
- Advanced Lean Six Sigma training (e.g., Black Belt)
- Demonstrated senior level experience leading and coaching multi-disciplinary senior level professionals or managers in the development of complex improvement projects using Lean techniques. Leadership ability to coach, mentor and manage a team of technical project professionals.
- Analytical, and presentation skills with ability to obtain agreement with key stakeholders at all levels of the organization and influence leaders and specialists across multiple sectors.
- Skills to partner with all levels within the organization; to work effectively with Project management, including work planning, monitoring and evaluation expertise, to manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
