Job Title Director of EngineeringBusiness EnvironmentOur organization is a cross-functional group, accountable for Amadeus shopping and reservation platforms. It brings together shopping and reservation expertise to oversee critical projects such as New Distribution Capabilities, with strengthened collaboration with the Travel Unit and Hospitality business units. In addition to Air expertise, it also encompasses Mobility (Car and Transfer) and Travel Protection R&D activities, Sustainability components, and Chatbots, driven by the MTE group.Mobility & Travel Protection, and more specifically Car, is a rapidly growing business environment, maintaining double-digit growth since 2019. We are already working with the largest travel agencies, airlines, car rental companies, and insurance companies. The business growth is significant, with 2024 revenues forecasted above 110 million Euros (almost tripled since 2019, +17% vs 2023). The domain is very engaging and innovative, with new business opportunities such as the growing transfer business, new products like keyless integration, or new partnerships allowing travel agencies to differentiate their offer from the raw air ticket, with for example some cancellation travel protections. R&D investments have grown accordingly, close to 10 million Euros in 2024.The Mobility and Travel Protection content becomes a key differentiation asset for airlines (merchandising and retail strategy) and Travel Agencies (capacity to serve customers beyond Air). It is also now connected to our Hotel IT point of sales and to payment projects. Cross-Sell opportunities are significant. The collaboration with iHotelier is one of the first projects bridging the Travelclick acquisition with Amadeus “non-Hotel IT” solutions.It is an exciting time to join these new challenges!In addition to Mobility & Travel Protection products, MTE is also focusing on Sustainability, with the first Carbon Offset component and the Sustainability platform.Last but not least, the group is now responsible for Chatbot applications with GenAI.PurposeThe head of MTE is accountable for the engineering strategy and deliveries for Sustainability components, Chatbot applications (starting with Amanda and Super Amanda), and the full Mobility and Travel Protection scope. They lead most of the R&D teams related to Mobility (Car, Transfers) and Travel Protection Services. Some specific activities are also delivered by teams in Airline IT digital or Travel Agency front-end solutions but are still driven by the head of MTE.This covers the full distribution flow for this content, from shopping to booking and after-sales, and the full stack, mixing User Interfaces, backends, and connectivity to providers.We distribute content from 100+ travel providers (like Avis, Hertz, Allianz, etc.). Our customer base is large and from different domains: airlines (e.g., Lufthansa, Qantas), traditional and online travel agencies (e.g., Expedia, Priceline), travel management companies (e.g., Amex), and corporations.The Mobility & Travel Protection Engineering workforce is about 130+ people, including most of the MTE group (~120 people out of the 140+ MTE contributors in Bangalore (biggest site), Nice, Bogota, and Dallas), and the dedicated Digital team composed of 10+ people. The set-up is fully agile and lean.The team works in direct interaction and in an agile manner with the commercial unit for the product strategy, and with Altea, Travel Distribution, and Hotel IT teams for the integration in Airline IT and Distribution flows.The mobility business is growing significantly: Revenues for Jul 2024 YTD were +7.6M€ or +15%.As this is a very engaging travel domain, there are also many opportunities for business development, especially portfolio expansion through partnerships with large companies or start-ups. The mobility and travel protection ecosystem evolves quickly, so it is critical to monitor evolutions and proceed with the right partners, like FINTEC players, Hopper, and Pattern. This allows building brand new offers to position Amadeus Travel Protection solutions on top of our Mobility products (Insurance for Value Cars), or on top of our Air content (Cancel for any reason) that helps travel distribution to differentiate their portfolio.The head of MTE is fully accountable for this product strategy with the commercial counterpart.The head of Mobility and Travel Protection Engineering guides the full product distribution stack (connectivity to providers up to the User Interfaces) and is therefore fully accountable for the product evolution (strategy and technology), dynamics, and successes.The teams are fully accountable for the functional scope described above and the associated technical components, grouping together all engineering job types (Software Engineers, DevOps, Quality Engineers, and Product Definition Analysts) for a given component. They are therefore responsible for product evolution, vision, and sustainability of the components. The organization is also fully embracing the devops, devsecops, and finops transformation.The whole scope of MTE products is also part of the Curiosity program to migrate the applications to Microsoft Azure Cloud, with a high focus on quality (no customer impact) and on cost (budget assigned to the program). In parallel, MTE is also building modern products that leverage new “cloud-native” technologies, such as moving towards event-driven architecture and microservices.Your Main ResponsibilitiesThe head of MTE must keep the organization of the engineering activities of Mobility and Travel Protection, Sustainability, and Chatbot, aligned with the evolving business, and in close collaboration with the main BUs and initiatives of Amadeus, including the Creation Platform.Design, develop/build, and support scalable and efficient deliverables at the core of MTE components.Guide various transformation programs – leadership hiring, Rewards & Recognition Program, Tech-Based Hiring.Develop POC prototypes for Go-To-Market (GTM) plans and product evaluations. Prepare and publish reports on value propositions to business leadership.Foster innovation and ensure Continuous Improvement programs.
