Stewardship: We responsibly manage the resources entrusted to us.About the PositionReporting to the Territorial Director Health, Safety, Wellness and Disability Management, the
incumbent serves the Mission by supporting clients in the proactive management of assigned disability,
absence management and accommodation claims. This includes Workers Compensation(occupational),
Non-Work-Related (non-occupational) Sick Leave and Long-Term Disability for all non-unionized and
unionized employees. They will work closely with MU leaders and supervisors, acting as the primary
contact for these types of claims, interfacing with external claim specialists. The incumbent is the
primary contact for the claimant throughout the period of absence from work and utilizes learnings
from such injuries and absences to support the Salvation Army Health and Safety program.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Claims Process Management:

  • Maintains a standardized claims and disability management process.
  • Utilizes the e-claims platform to report and manage all absences.
  • Provides recommendations to management on disability management, accommodation cases

and return to work plans.

  • Recommends continuous program improvement of the Salvation Army’s disability management

program.Disability Management (Occupational and Non-Occ) and Return to Work Facilitation:

  • Monitors ongoing claims and maintains plan oversight.
  • Utilizes and provides day to day operational support on the e-claims system that documents.

  • Tracks non-occupational disability management in conjunction with and in support of MU’s.
  • Ensures eligible absences are submitted to our provider in a timely manner and liaises with each MU to monitor the absence and support return to work when applicable.
  • Ensures absences not covered by our provider are tracked and documented appropriately and

works with the employee, manager, and health care provider to facilitate return to work when
applicable.

  • Inputs confidential medical information into employee case files.
  • Ensures employees on medical leave receive correspondence regarding their absence, including

details about their record of employment and benefit continuance, as appropriate.

  • provides reports on claims and disability management cases as required.
  • Assists in developing, implementing, maintaining, and improving Health and Safety programs to

reduce workplace injuries and illnesses.

  • Collaborates with Benefits, Payroll, the HR Service Centre to ensure accurate information is

recorded and communicated on each case.Communication and Learning:

  • Provides disability, absence management resources to staff on organizational-wide standards,

guidelines, tools (e.g., early intervention, case management and return-to-work planning), and
accommodation for both occupational and non-occupational absences.

  • Delivers training and development sessions focused on claims and disability management.
  • Develops and fosters positive working relationships with internal stakeholders, multi-tasking in a

fast-paced environment and working as part of a team.QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college diploma or certificate program (2-3 years) in

Human Resources with emphasis on Health & Safety, Disability Management.Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • 3-5 years prior experience in disability management related to occupational and non-occupational claims, including return to work plans, appeals processes, over multiple sites.
  • Working knowledge with applicable legislation, Workplace Safety Insurance Act (WSIA),

Occupational Health and Safety Act and Human Rights, Employment Standards Act.

  • Prior experience or good working understanding of union and non-union environments.
  • Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army – its mission, vision, values, and culture

CompensationThe target hiring range for this position is $50,302 to $62,878 with the ability to progress to a maximum of $75,454. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.Other DetailsThe Salvation Army will provide reasonable accommodation upon request.
