The Role: 

The Engagement Officer – Temperate Rainforest is a funded placement until December 2025 through
Species Survival Fund, for the chance to gain experience working alongside our South West
England Estate team. The role will help deliver our Rainforest Restoration Project, further
information about the project is listed in the Job Description. 

The types of activities you might be involved in include: 

  • Supporting the Project Officer in the planning, preparation and delivery of a wide range of
    volunteering days and activity across Devon and Cornwall, including practical habitat
    management tasks
  • Assist the Project Officer and the Engagement and Communication Officer (ECO) in the
    planning, preparation and delivery of a wide range of public engagement events, landowner
    demonstration events and volunteer training.
  • Working with the South West Volunteer Development Officer to build networking relationships
    with local universities, colleges, and other groups to help develop the projects focus on young
    people
  • Work with the Project Officer and ECO to plan, develop and deliver the organisation and
    delivery of a ‘Rainforest Exhibition’ event
  • The chance to bring your own ideas and perspectives to the placement

This is a homeworking role with regular travel across Devon and Cornwall. The role is 22.5 hours (3 days) per week.

The Candidate: 

You will have:

  • Experience in planning and delivering public facing events (desirable)
  • Experience participating / running volunteering groups and events (desirable)
  • Good environmental and/or nature conservation knowledge (desirable)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • An interest in learning and developing new ideas, working with others to bring them to life
  • Experience of using Microsoft Word and email with the ability to use IT and learn new tools
    with support
  • Good attention to detail
  • A passion for the environment
  • A Full UK driver’s license with access to a vehicle or ability to travel around the South
    West England region, mainly Devon and Cornwall.

You will be:

  • Organised and able to pick up new skills quickly
  • Able to build relationships with people easily
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willing to work weekends where necessary

Additional Requirements:

  • You’ll be aged between 18 – 25 years old (up to 30 for those with a neurodisability)
  • You’ll be based in Devon or Cornwall
  • You must be willing to undergo a DBS check
