Recruitment range: $67,453 – $71,430 maximum starting salary is determined through knowledge, experience and internal equity.Performance range: starting salary to max of $75,685 is available through annual performance increases.An employee in this classification is excluded from the bargaining unit as defined in the Labour Relations CodeIn accordance with the university’s Equity Plan and pursuant to Section 42 of the BC Human Rights Code, the selection will be limited to members of the following designated group(s). Job SummaryReporting to the Vice-President Indigenous (VPI), this position provides executive-level, comprehensive administrative and financial support to the VPI and is one of the first points of contact for the public on all aspects of the Indigenous Portfolio within the Office of the President.The position deals with sensitive and confidential information and at all times the incumbent must demonstrate discretion, independent judgment and high professional standards, operating under strict timelines requiring constant adjustment of priorities and balancing of workload. Knowledge of colonization and the myriad of issues that arise from colonization (i.e. racism, mental health, addiction) is necessary. Specifically, an understanding Coast Salish protocols including working knowledge of community structures, big house, chief and council, Elders, band administration and family structures.The incumbent keeps the VP Indigenous well informed through ongoing communication, alerting the VP Indigenous to any situations that may require attention, often under strict timelines that require triaging and constant adjustment of ever-changing priorities.This position works collaboratively as part of the administrative team in the Office of the Vice-President Indigenous, and provides coverage for reception and other administrative duties as required. The role supports a high volume office while managing evolving priorities.An employee in this classification is excluded from the bargaining unit as defined in the Labour Relations Code.Job RequirementsSkills:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to work as a team member or independently, deal effectively with non-routine matters and coordinate various activities.
  • Takes responsibility, displays initiative, problem solves and makes independent decisions.
  • Ability to do the job with constant interruptions in an ever-changing environment with competing priorities.
  • Advanced proficiency with computer applications (i.e. MS-Office Suite, Adobe Create Suite, content management systems, presentation software – e.g PowerPoint and other presentation software).
  • Advanced skills with UVic’s online systems and processes including ChromeRiver, FAST, Cascade and Connect (SharePoint).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including preparing memos, reviewing and editing reports, and summarizing information.
  • Strong ability to self-direct and take initiative as appropriate.
