About usWe are seeking a Finance Assistant to join the RIGE Operations team, focusing on general accounting, transaction processing, and monthly finance reconciliations for UCL Grand Challenges (GC) and the RIGE Integrative Cross-Faculty Investment Fund (IxFI). The successful candidate will deliver excellent customer service, respond promptly to finance-related requests, and identify improvements to financial systems and processes. Responsibilities include journal posting, account reconciliations, invoicing, and purchasing. This role offers the opportunity to drive significant change in streamlining processes and improving data accuracy, supporting enhanced analysis and business insight.Backgroundstimulates cross-disciplinary research and knowledge exchange on a range of globally significant issues. It facilitates interaction and novel collaboration between expert researchers in different disciplines, through mechanisms ranging from small grants addressing academics’ concerns and curiosities, to thematic larger grants, network building, events and commissions.Over the course of its first 15 years the GC programme had major impact, including: £1.9m in grants awarded; 442 projects supported, involving more than 850 researchers and 170 centres, institutes, and departments; and a further £31m external funding won as a result. It established impactful cross-disciplinary collaboration as a core feature of UCL’s culture and identity.The Integrative Cross-Faculty Investment Fund (IxFI) is a new UCL investment scheme that aims to provide UCL researchers with access to internal funding designed to support research proposals to secure large-scale, external, funding or grants to deliver strategic research projects. In addition to leveraging new sources of research and innovation funding, the scheme aims to: advance equality, diversity and inclusion in UCL’s research culture; support strategic initiatives that cross Faculties or span research organisations; stimulate researchers to engage positively with UCL’s philanthropy teams.About the roleThis role is a key part of the RIGE Operations team and involves close collaboration with GC program colleagues, finance team members, and other stakeholders.This role will collaborate closely with colleagues in the operational Finance team, providing day-to-day financial support across IxFI and GC. Responsibilities include posting journals, account reconciliations, invoicing, and purchasing.As part of an expanding team within UCL Grand Challenges, and a program with significantly increased funding, as well as the IxFI funding scheme, this position has the opportunity to drive substantial changes to streamline processes and enhance data accuracy. The successful postholder will have excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work and meet multiple deadlines. We are looking for a committed team player with willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels, with equal ability to work independently where required.The successful postholder will provide continuous financial support to both the Grand Challenges (GC) team and the Integrative Cross-Faculty Investment Fund (IxFI), ensuring that programmes financial accounts are always current and that all funding is meticulously monitored, forecasted, and budgeted. Responsibilities include general accounting, transaction processing, and monthly financial reconciliations for both GC and IxFI.They will provide excellent customer service, responding promptly to financial inquiries related to both GC and IxFI. The ideal candidate will proactively identify and implement improvements to financial systems, processes, and workflows.The successful candidate will possess strong written and oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal abilities, and a customer service mindset.
