Our Whiteshell (WL) location is looking for a Fire Systems Specialist to assist in the day-to-day operations of fire protection systems on site.   • Coordinating lifecycle management activities related to fire protection systems.
  • Coordinating condition assessments of site services systems and interfacing with customers and consultants/contractors responsibilities for systems and equipment within a building/facility.
  • Developing a prioritized hierarchy for the upgrade of site services systems.
  • Coordinating configuration management for building and site service systems.
  • Developing contract documents for consultants/contractors.
  • Coordinating preventative maintenance activities for fire protection systems.
  • Preparing maintenance plans and procedures specific to various site services and buildings.
  • Ensuring proper procedures and checklists are in the work management system for upgraded site service systems for preventative maintenance (PM) activities.
  • Developing internal client requirement documents for fire systems.
  • Reviewing, revising and managing system/program documentation.
  • Organizing drawings for existing services to manage configuration.
  • Developing standards and specifications for the facilities to be designed and maintained.
  • Supporting system owners in the development of PM programs for critical equipment and assets.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
  • A degree or college diploma in Fire Protection Technologies or related studies.
  • Experience
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience.
  • General understanding of the Canadian National Building Code, Canadian Electrical Code, regulatory requirements, Canadian National Fire Code standards and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and conflicting priorities.
  • Willingness to work off hours, if required, during system failures (e.g., sprinkler and fire alarms) and other site emergencies.
  • Computer skills include a good working knowledge of MS Office Products and other programs.
  • Good oral communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to present changes or installations of fire systems and communicate Canadian National Building Code, Electrical Code, Fire Code standards, and NFPA codes to trades for task execution.
  • Ability to fulfil an on-call role on a rotational basis, sometimes requiring attendance at the work site during the off-shift.
  • Thorough understanding of the Canadian National Building Code, Canadian Electrical Code, Regulatory Requirements, Canadian National Fire Code standards and National Fire Protection Association codes, and safety requirements that are unique to a nuclear environment.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

  • Standing and walking for long portions of a workday.
  • Work may be required in various types of weather year-round and during the night for urgent repairs/troubleshooting.
  • We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day – starting at 6 am.
