This role is contractually based at Service Headquarters, Reigate, with expectation and opportunity for agile working, including working from a variety of locations, such as other SCC offices, fire stations or from home. You will report to the Firewise Scheme and Youth Engagement Manager and be part of the Children and Young People Team.At Surrey Fire and Rescue Service we are putting prevention at the heart of our Service, and we are looking for a Firewise Scheme Officer who is ready for the challenge of positively engaging with young people and their families in our communities who need help with fire setting behaviour.Rewards and Benefits
About the RoleAre you able to engage with young people and empower them to make positive life choices? Are you confident, approachable and a great communicator? Would you like to use these skills in a Fire Service setting? If you have these skills, we can train you to work specifically with children and young people who display fire setting behaviours.Through the Firewise Scheme you will identify, address and reduce the risk to the community of deliberate fire setting by children and young people, through case referral management, the delivery and evaluation of educational sessions.The role involves receiving and processing Firewise Scheme referrals, accurately recording case information, and allocating cases to Firewise Advisors based on the needs of the case, as well as the Advisors’ experience, skills, and availability.You will deliver Firewise Scheme educational sessions to children and young people, addressing their fire-setting behaviour to reduce community risk. Additionally, you will support the Senior Firewise Scheme Officer and the Firewise Scheme and Youth Engagement Manager in promoting, developing, maintaining, and evaluating the Firewise Scheme.Shortlisting CriteriaTo be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:
On appointment, you will receive a full induction to the role and specific training for working with children and young people who set fires. You will have access to regular supervision and continuous professional development (CPD).
