You’ll be undertaking various surveys to our housing assets, assessing their condition and lifecycle and providing expert advice on property maintenance and legal disrepair issues. You’ll work with tenants to solve their problems, knowing that when you’re finished, your work will have helped make a difference to their quality of life. Properties tend to be quite different (even when they’re on the same road), which keeps things interesting. We have a knowledgeable team here – they know the job well, understand how things work here and really know the local area.Yes, you already know what you’re doing, but it never hurts to have people around who can help you settle in quickly. (Plus, you can work together to figure out those absolute headscratchers that don’t seem to make any sense.)You’ll manage your workload the way you need to so you can get things done the right way, with a focus on quality.Of course, we have expectations of how much work you should realistically get through – but nobody is going to be calling you every 5 minutes to ask how many surveys you’ve carried out that day.In other words, you’ll be treated like a grown-up, appreciated and supported by your team and know that you’re spending your days making a positive difference to people’s lives.Although you’ll spend a lot of time on-site, you’ll also be able to work flexibly – including working from home from time to time. When you’re travelling to sites, you’ll be able to use one of our pool cars. You’ll need a relevant surveying/construction professional qualification as well as a working knowledge of building regulations, property related statutory responsibilities and health and safety legislations. You’ll also be the kind of person who takes the initiative – when you spot a problem you deal with it proactively, instead of leaving it to fix itself or hoping someone else will sort it out. While it would be great if you had some kind of experience of working in Social Housing (or at least an understanding of the sector), it’s not essential. We’re proud to be here for the people of Somerset. And that means everyone in Somerset. An important part of this is ensuring that we are as diverse and inclusive as the people and communities we serve. We welcome applications from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences to enrich our team. You can always contact the hiring manager for a chat if there’s anything you want to talk about before you apply. We are proud to offer an environment that is supportive and rewarding, working as part of a team who are passionate about the work they do to improve the lives of people in Somerset. We offer great training and development opportunities, with supportive management. As well as this, we have some fantastic employee benefits available:

- Employee Assistance for the times you may need some support and a variety of employee wellbeing services.
- Auto enrolment onto our generous Pension Scheme and optional pension enhancement through our Additional Voluntary Contribution scheme.
