Position DescriptionSerco Canada Inc. is a Service System Manager for Employment Services in the Province of Ontario, dedicated to empowering individuals and businesses through innovative workforce development strategies. We are committed to creating opportunities for job seekers and employers alike, fostering growth and prosperity across Ontario through the EmployNext program.We are seeking a candidate in Northwestern Ontario to engage directly with Indigenous community partners within the catchment area. As the Indigenous Community Liaison, you will support our Indigenous Community Engagement efforts in Northwestern Ontario, fostering collaborative relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and partners. In this role, you will help align and continuously develop programs and services that are inclusive and culturally relevant to meet the needs of Indigenous jobseekers.In this role, you will:This position requires flexibility and adaptability to meet the organization’s objectives, ensuring engagement with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.

  • Support Indigenous outreach, coordinating and participating in events to raise awareness of our programs and services.
  • Proactively collaborate with Service Providers and Indigenous organizations, to establish culturally appropriate jobseeker referrals and ensure that our programs are culturally relevant.
  • Support the delivery of Indigenous Cultural Competency Training, workshops, discussion circles, and other initiatives in collaboration with Serco’s Manager of Indigenous Relations, Community Outreach Manager, and local Indigenous Partners.
  • Contribute to the development of Indigenous training materials and resources, aligning them with the needs of local Indigenous jobseekers to support our programs and services.
  • Work closely with the Employment Services Team and Service Provider network to identify and connect with Indigenous organizations, leveraging their resources and expertise to enhance employment strategies, training opportunities, and work placements.
  • Take a proactive role in the development of key employer partnerships to promote the inclusive hiring of Indigenous jobseekers and ensure a continuous flow of employment opportunities for participants.
  • Conduct research on industry trends, labour market demands, and in-demand skills.
  • Maintain thorough records of activities and engagement progress through our customer relationship management (CRM) system.
  • Attend meetings to provide information about service access processes, available referral and employment supports and address any questions or concerns.
  • Represent the organization at public events, conferences, or forums to foster relationships and contribute to relevant discussions across a range of topics.
  • Attend events or functions that may not be exclusively Indigenous-focused but are aligned with the organization’s broader mission and objectives.
  • Engage with non-Indigenous communities and partners as needed for specific initiatives that align with the broader goals of the organization.
  • Undertake any additional tasks and duties that may be reasonably required within the scope of this role.

QualificationsTo be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to adapt messages for diverse audiences while remaining culturally aware and respectful.
  • Ability to adapt and pivot strategies creatively to address emerging community needs and challenges.
  • Strong engagement and relationship-building expertise.
  • Excellent time-management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • High integrity and sound judgment.
  • Proficiency in computer tools, such as MS Office Suite, with the ability to navigate and adapt to new technology.
  • Familiarity with working in environments that require operational security measures and confidentiality protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of Employment Ontario programs and the employability sector. Experience in other related areas will also be considered.
  • Familiarity with the social services sector and key local Indigenous Partners.
  • Post-secondary training in Indigenous studies, social services, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience in other areas will also be considered.
  • Experience working effectively with Indigenous communities and organizations, with sensitivity and understanding of Indigenous cultural practices and values, is an asset.
  • A valid Driver’s License and the ability to travel as required.
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check (CPIC), including Fingerprint Criminal Record Check.
  • Proficiency in additional languages, such as Ojibway, Oji-Cree or Cree, is considered an asset.
