Summary You will serve as a INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (CUSTSPT) in the INFORMATION EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY of TRAINING AND EDUCATION COMMAND. Responsibilities You will be responsible for planning and delivering of customer support services, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance, and/or training, in response to customer requirements. You will provide leadership and guidance to desk side support technicians in the section. You will develop customer support policies, procedures, and standards; providing customer training; and/or ensuring the rigorous application of information security, information assurance, policies, principles, and practices. You will be responsible for resolving the most difficult customer support request. You will use judgement in researching, choosing, interpreting, modifying, and applying available material for adaptation to specific user requirements at the University. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications You are required to have information technology (IT) related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: 1. Attention to Detail – Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Testing and optimizing the functionality of systems, networks, and data. 2. Customer Service – Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Utilizing performance tuning methods to resolve infrastructure, software, hardware and network systems problems for customers. 3. Oral Communication – Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Briefing managers or customers on the technical requirements for the design, development, and support of systems and networks. 4. Problem Solving – Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Utilizing systems diagnostic tools to diagnose and recover failed systems. In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector planning and delivering information technology (IT) customer support services (e.g. systems integration, configuration, diagnostics, modification, recovery, risk analysis) for fleet hardware, software and networks to optimize the security and functionality of end users’ IT systems. Education In lieu of Specialized Experience, you may qualify based on the education requirements below: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management. OR 3 full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, graduate education that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
