Summary The Information Technology Specialist position is in the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts (AO), Department of Administrative Services, Administrative Systems Office (ASO), Systems Execution Division, Infrastructure Branch. ASO manages, oversees, and supports technology functions of the administrative services lines of business. ASO develops and supports AO technology systems, budget, accounting, procurement, space and facilities, and other administrative functions. Responsibilities The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts (AO), Administrative Systems Office (ASO), Systems Execution Division is seeking a motivated, experienced Information Technology Specialist to join its Infrastructure team. The Systems Execution Division develops, maintains, operates, and supports all administrative information technology systems, including finance, human resources, facilities, and general support systems. The Information Technology Specialist supports applications running on Windows or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating systems, manages server hosting, provides infrastructure services, and monitors activities for over 50 locally used and Judiciary-wide enterprise applications. This position reports to the Infrastructure Branch Chief. The ideal candidate has the ability to present complex topics to a wide range of audiences, manage and successfully deliver mission-critical services in a dynamic environment with competing demands, and effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure minimal disruption to supported applications. The ideal candidate also possesses excellent written and oral communication skills. The duties of the position include, but are not limited to: Managing and maintaining RHEL or Windows-based servers and ensuring their reliability, security, and performance. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, deploy, secure, and maintain computer systems for ASO’s productions, test, and development environments. Assisting in setting up and configuring new systems, installing and maintaining application software, and coordinating network connectivity. Assisting in patch and update deployments to keep systems protected against vulnerabilities, participating in the security scanning program, and resolving all assigned findings. Monitoring system performance and proactively addressing potential issues. Providing technical support to ensure prompt resolution of performance and availability issues. Creating or maintaining architecture diagrams, service level agreements, and standard operating procedure documentation. Analyzing system logs, investigating incidents, and providing valuable insights for IT service intelligence by using monitoring tools such as Zabbix or Splunk. If appointed to a temporary position, management may have the discretion of converting the position to permanent depending upon funding and staffing allocation. Qualifications Applicants must have demonstrated experience as listed below. This requirement is according to the AO Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment Systems which include interpretive guidance and reference to the OPM Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions. Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one full year (52 weeks) (preferably 3 years) of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience must demonstrate experience in ALL areas defined below: Managing and maintaining Windows or RHEL-based servers and ensuring reliability, security, and performance. Supporting commercial-off-the-shelf or internally developed applications. Identifying, analyzing, and resolving server and related IT issues. Applicants with the following certifications are highly desirable: Windows Systems Administrator RHEL Administrator VMWare Commercial Cloud Service Provider Education This position does not require education to qualify.
