Job Description:Wood Saskatoon is currently recruiting for an Instrumentation Engineer to join our Mining & Minerals group. This is a business critical role within the team.   • Work with clients and vendors to create functional measurement and control systems in mining and mineral processing environments.
  • Work independently or within a team of engineers and designers. Mentor junior staff.
  • Select appropriate instruments for measurement and control.
  • Select appropriate components for control systems, communication systems and fire detection/alarm systems. Select appropriate cables and panels to complete designs.
  • Review vendor data for equipment and apply it to instrumentation and controls design.
  • Develop piping and instrumentation drawings (P&IDs) and control narratives.
  • Obtain measurements and collect data at job sites as required.
  • Develop control system architecture and block diagrams, communication network drawings, PLC and DCS panel drawings, instrument loop diagrams, junction box wiring diagrams and fire alarm system risers and layouts.
  • Check the design work of others and provide technical feedback.
  • Prepare construction contract and equipment procurement packages, including documents such as specifications, data sheets and technical bid evaluations.
  • Create documents such as instrument index, I/O lists and equipment lists.
  • When required, lead a project team of Instrumentation engineers and designers including:
  • Coordinate design work and technical input across a project wide, multi-discipline design to ensure cost effective, efficient, safe and timely completion.
  • Oversee the development of scope, budgets, schedules and reporting.
  • Coordinate resource planning, work packages, deadlines and budget for the project discipline team.
  • Provide regular reporting to the project manager regarding the discipline progress and performance with respect to scope, schedule and budget.

Qualifications:

  • Electrical Engineering (BSc) degree with completed course in digital and analog systems, and/or chemical engineering. Diploma in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering Technology may be considered with proven experience and leadership abilities.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience with design in mining and mineral processing projects.
  • Knowledge of potash, uranium, and copper processes.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience as a project discipline lead overseeing a team of technical professionals and managing scope, schedule, cost, quality, and design of electrical and instrumentation projects.
  • Effective communication, organization and time management skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume and deadline-driven environment. Must have the ability to balance the workload and staffing in order to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Knowledge and experience in construction is an asset.
  • Experience in AVEVA Instrumentation or SmartPlant Instrumentation is beneficial.
  • Everyday use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with ISA, IEEE and CSA standards, including the Canadian Electrical Code, and how to apply them to designs.
  • Ability to register as an Engineer (PEng) in the province of Saskatchewan.
  • Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required.
