As an intentional community assistant in an intentional community, you will support and assist people in an
attractive and modern 9-unit townhouse community in Chilliwack, BC.In an intentional community, each person is free to make choices about how to live, when and who visits, if

the person receiving support is uniquely valuable.JOB OVERVIEW:
As an intentional community assistant, you will assist the intentional community coordinator in overseeing the
intentional community home setting, the 24-hour staffed supported home, and the community-based
services. In the coordinator’s absence, you will ensure that the daily care of the people supported is maintained
through personal care, program implementation, and staff supervision.This is a permanent, full-time position available immediately.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend to the physical, recreational, leisure, emotional, cultural and spiritual needs of each
person. * Help each person grow in personal care skills and assist with personal care when needed.
- Assist each person in using their language and communication abilities.
- Help people develop interpersonal skills, engage with family and friends, and participate in
their community. * Support each person in their faith practice and system of beliefs.
- Arrange for celebrations on birthdays and days of special importance to each person.
- Be attentive to the level of stress in the life of each person and assist in providing help to
moderate the stress. * Attend to daily health needs and report changes in status to the supervisor.
- Document the care of the people being supported.
- Accompany people to medical or other specialist appointments and assist with dispensing of
medications. * Sharing “on call” responsibilities with the intentional community coordinator, understandingand implementing correct emergency protocol when necessary * Complete vehicle, maintenance and safety documentation.
- In a home, provide household upkeep, cleaning duties, meal preparation and other household
responsibilities.JOB REQUIREMENTS

- Possession of Canadian landed immigrant or legal working status.
- Standard requirements (criminal record check, medical clearance, BC Class 4 driver’s licence [can
be hired with BC Class 5 licence and must obtain BC Class 4], ICBC driving record, immunization
history). * Full COVID-19 immunization.
- Confidentiality with respect to people receiving our services and the operations of Bethesda.
- Ability to perform transfers and repositioning.
- Strong organizational and assessment skills with a high level of personal integrity, initiative and
maturity * Excellent communication skills and ability to teach or train staff.
- Experience working with adults with diverse abilities.
- Education background and/or equivalent experience in a social services field is an asset.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Competitive salary: $28.90 – $30.45/hr
- Hiring bonus: $100 at time of hire, another $200 after 1 year of continuous employment and
completion of all job requirements. * Excellent extended benefits package.
