Position Summary:

The Automation Architect articulates the overall vision with respect to automation across IT and assumes primary responsibility for the organization’s automation program. The role is responsible for developing and implementing the strategies, frameworks, and policies for IT automation at ETS, and ensuring that automation is systematically applied. The role works closely with a broad array of business and IT areas, including Governance, Security, Operations, DevOps, CCoE, SDLC, Quality Assurance, application areas, and Reference Architecture to identify opportunities for automation benefits. Define automation standards

and implementation guidelines, and provide guidance, best practices, and insight on where and how automation is established and applied. The role will perform research, POCs, POTs, and other hands on activities to validate, promote, and expand automation efficiencies, and will work with respective IT areas to introduce new automation techniques, tools, and methods.

Responsibilities:

  • Articulate and document an overall automation vision and strategy that can be used across IT and ETS.

  • Develop and define automation standards, policies, guidelines, and best practices that can be followed across IT and ETS.

  • Train and mentor IT service delivery teams on the effective use and best practices for automation.

  • Review automation approaches and implementations by automation engineers and provide feedback.

  • Develop and maintain standards, guidelines and artifacts for use in specific automation projects.

  • Design and lead the implementation of strategic automation. Assist in guiding and leading the application and execution of automation processes across IT and ETS.

  • Identify the business and process changes that are required to implement an automation strategy and, working with business and IT areas, develop plans for putting in place the required changes.

  • Identify automation domains and develop specific automation plans for each?, including development, versioning, maintenance, and reuse policies for automation artifacts (scripts, configurations, data, etc.)

  • Develop and implement metrics to identify and measure automation including time savings, improved compliance, error reduction and improved efficiency.

  • Actively seek opportunities to introduce automation for increased efficiency, quality, security, and opportunities for process improvement more generally.

  • Champion the benefits of automation when speaking to business leaders, and in turn, work to ensure that the targeted business outcomes are achieved.

  • Align defined automation strategies across DevOps and CCoE practices.

  • Lead and conduct POCs, POTs, and related research to introduce new automation tools, techniques, and practices, and guide IT areas in the introduction of them. Partner and collaborate with other IT areas to promote same.

  • Persuasively demonstrate the business value of automation.

  • Maintain a broad business understanding including customer and market trends.

  • Maintain a broad knowledge of new technical tools and trends, and apply those tools to improving business processes.

  • Lead the alignment of business strategy to IT strategy, in ways that adhere to IT maxims

  • Guide efforts to codify policies and business logic in support of automation efforts.

  • Obtain funding and business sponsors for automation projects and tools.

  • Adhere to ethical standards and comply with the laws and regulations applicable to your job function

Process Outputs and Deliverables:

  • Automation strategy documents

  • Automation framework design and development

  • Automation policies, guidelines, and best practices documents

  • Implementation Plan that provides the overall approach that can be used to systematically apply automation across IT and ETS.

  • POCs, POTs, prototypes, evaluations, and research on automation tools, plugins, practices, and techniques to advance automation across IT and ETS.

  • Suggestions for improvement to processes, technology and applications

  • Cost estimates, standard IT documents as necessary

Education, Certifications, or Special Licenses:

  • A bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science or Information Technology.

  • Solid experience with programming with a modern programming language or an automation tool.

  • Professional/technical certifications are highly desirable, such as AWS Solution Architect certification.

Relevant Years of Experience Required:

  • At least 5 years of experience programming in a modern programming language.

  • At least 5 years of software and/or automation architecture experience.

  • At least 5 years of experience scripting with an automation tool/platform.

  • At least 5 years of experience leading and directly software developers or automation engineers.

Other Requirements:

  • Solid understanding of Agile IT development methodology

  • Solid understanding of Cloud technologies

  • Solid experience of software testing approaches and methodologies

  • Solid experience with DevOps and Automation tools such as Jenkins, Selenium, Sahi, Artifactory, Maven, Liquibase, Ansible, XL Deploy, Cloud Formation Template, etc.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and attention to details.

  • Good understanding of ETS processes and organization structures.
