In this role, you will be helping reinforce management’s expectations for safe work practices, the consequences of not following safe work practices, and addressing performance and time management issues at the job sites. - Reviewing and Commenting (R&C) on documents related to the CRL Decommissioning Facilities program;
- As Officer-in-Charge (OIC) or Emergency Steward of various facilities and/or areas, the Supervisor must lead facility and/or area response to emergencies, both internal and external;
- Responding to calls during non-business hours and resolving emergency calls;
- Working with Trades, Projects, FD HSSE support staff (Radiation Protection, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Protection) and other support groups to resolve problems and issues related to the remediation and decommissioning programs;
- Maintaining, updating and ensuring CRL Decommissioning Facilities is following the preventive maintenance program and completing all maintenance, Storage-with-Surveillance (SwS) and compliance activities on time;
- Supervising and delegating work to teams (up to 20 Staff);
- Leading characterization and remediation activities in the field in multiple areas of any given job site, and possibly multiple job sites;
- Leading site preparation activities related to future remediation activities;
- Supervising operation of heavy demolition equipment;
- Supervising site reduction and packaging of radioactive/and non-radioactive demolition waste in accordance with Waste Management Plans (WMP’s);
- Owning and managing job sites, including perimeter barriers, signage, staff work practices and traffic and pedestrian control;
- Leading Plan of Day (POD) meetings with teams, ensuring pre-jobs/post-jobs are completed;
- Supporting the development and implementation of training;
- Leading and or assisting in conducting interviews, goal setting performance management, career development, disciplinary and promotion actions for assigned staff;
- Authorizing timesheets, leave approvals, vacation and overtime;
- Providing coaching as necessary;
- Ensuring adherence to fieldwork plans and permits, including hold points and signoffs prior to advancement;
- Working with technical staff to resolve problems/issues to maintain a safe path forward approach to work execution;
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Secondary School graduation with Grade 12/13 advanced level with Ontario Academic Credits (OACs) in Math, Science and English or equivalent
- Experience
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience working in a nuclear environment or equivalent;
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Well-developed leadership and communication skills including the ability to develop a collaborative, team-oriented work environment in a unionized environment;
- Demonstrated ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, unusual or hazardous conditions and to lead others in such conditions;
- Familiar with emergency procedures and responsibilities;
- Knowledge and application of radiation protection principles, measurements and contamination control;
- Be capable of obtaining Radiation Protection Group 3 certification within 3 months;
- A working knowledge of CNL’s practices, procedures and organization;
- Familiarity with the Planning process and Computerized Maintenance Management System;
- Good writing skills for report development, daily logs, OTOs (Order to Operate), RWPs (Radiological Work Plan) and work plans;
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specification sheets and detailed instructions;
- Good working ability with Microsoft suite of software;
- Familiarity with CNL’s compliance programs;
- Understanding of waste management principles and volume reduction methodologies;
- Capable of producing plans and schedules;
- Site Access security clearance would be an asset;
- Knowledge of the Canada Labour Code Part II, Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS);
- Knowledge of Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) regulations and how they apply to decommissioning activities is an asset; and Knowledge of the applicable codes associated with decommissioning a nuclear site and buildings and how to apply them when performing decommissioning activities is required is an asset.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
- Work could involve soil and groundwater characterization activities (boreholes, excavations, soil sample collection, groundwater sampling), site remediation (removal of impacted soils and/or buried waste items), analysis of repacking of legacy waste, recovery, construction, partial dismantling, stripping walls/ceilings, stripping process equipment, demolition work up to and including entire structures, and housekeeping.
