Job Title: Lead Electrical EngineerJob DescriptionWe are seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team in Surrey. The successful candidate will report to the Electrical Manager and oversee a team of 2-10 engineers, depending on project scope. This role involves leading electrical design projects, communicating with clients, and acting as the Engineer of Record.Responsibilities
- Lead a team of 2-10 engineers to manage electrical design projects.
- Communicate with clients on design updates, review cycles, and issues.
- Act as Engineer of Record.
- Produce power system drawings including single line diagrams, MCC layouts, cable schedules, contactor panel wiring schematics, electrical plot plans, building electrical layouts, lighting layouts, electric heat tracing designs, and cable tray routing.
- Support other disciplines in producing control system drawings such as PLC/DCS cabinet layouts, control schematics, and wiring schematics.
- Perform fugitive emission studies and develop hazardous location classification drawings.
- Assist in project scheduling and reporting.
- Liaise with vendors and other disciplines to integrate equipment into the final design.
- Perform power system analysis using SKM Power Tools and ETAP.
- Meet regularly with clients to ensure drawing packages and standards meet expectations and review any concerns with the Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Department Leads.
- Specify equipment requirements such as generators, power transformers, switchgear, MCCs, and ASDs.
- Evaluate vendor quotations and liaise with the Procurement Department to purchase equipment.
- Collaborate with Project Engineers and Project Managers in the front-end review of project budgets and scope documents including Project Execution Plans and Design Basis Memorandums.
- Implement electrical, instrumentation, and controls specifications and standards to ensure consistency across designs.
- Perform project drawing checks and work closely with the Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls teams to ensure compliance with codes and standards.
- Participate in project planning and communicate general project deliverables.
- Assist Department Heads in developing training programs and procedures for the Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Departments.
- Participate in HAZOP/SIL analysis.
- Travel to the field for project scoping, commissioning, and as-building.
Essential Skills
- 10 years of experience within electrical engineering, ideally from EPCMs.
- 3+ years of experience leading a team of 2 or more direct reports.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) certification.
- Experience with power distribution (medium/low voltage, less than 6.9kV at the facility level).
- Power generation experience with generators, combined cycle/substations.
- Electrical design experience with pump stations and compressor stations.
- Client-facing experience, including communication regarding technical work.
- Proficiency in software such as ETAP, SKM, and EasyPower for power system analyses and AutoCAD 2D for drafting/design.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience within LNG/LPG projects.
- Renewables experience (solar, wind, hydrogen, carbon capture).
- US Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- Experience in PLC.
- Controls experience.
- Power relay coordination experience.
Work EnvironmentThe role is based on-site in the Surrey office, with hours from Monday to Friday, 7:30am-5pm (unpaid lunch). The position offers a hybrid work schedule with Fridays working from home. Team members can expect to log an average of 45 hours per week. The work environment is business casual and includes various corporate events, sports teams, and culture electives. External training programs and mentorship opportunities are provided. Parking is available on-site. The electrical team consists of 42 members, with team sizes varying by project (2-10 people per team).
