In this role, you will get to create a world-class product name clearance program. The person in this role will take on the challenge of streamlining our clearance process to pragmatically mitigate risk, while enabling our brand’s fun names and slogans to engage our guests.You will work closely with our brand team and collaborate with stakeholders both in Vancouver and globally. You will also work closely with the trademark prosecution team who are responsible for global trademark prosecutions, oppositions, and maintenance. You will also be responsible for designing and delivering educational programs for our international partners, senior leadership, product teams, and brand creative partners.a day in the lifeKey Responsibilities:

  • Clearance and Brand Collaboration
  • Develop, refine and manage an impactful clearance program for global product naming.
  • Develop risk management strategies that effectively balance guest engagement, innovation, trademark prosecution goals and global legal risks.
  • Collaborate closely with the trademark prosecution team to enable their effective delivery of filing, prosecution, and enforcement of trademarks.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Work closely with Brand, Design, Product Education, and outside agencies to land names and balance legal risk.
  • Engage with various stakeholders both in Vancouver and globally to capture trademark requirements from local regions while managing global risks.
  • Work with product design and brand creative teams to guide the creation, adoption and protection of iconic brand marks.
  • Monitor global trademark laws and industry trends to ensure proactive risk management. Advise internal teams on trademark legal issues and best practices.
  • Global/Regional Process Development & Management:
  • As part of an IP Centre of Excellence, create, implement, and continuously refine processes to gather trademark requirements from local regions, understand regional issues and business goals, and deliver impactful results to those requirements. Manage stakeholder engagement and education for regional partners.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of trademark laws in key global regions, including China, the United States, the Middle East, and Europe. Understand creation of strategies and risk assessments that can be practical for use on a global scale.
  • Education & Training:
  • Design and carry out comprehensive education programs for international partners, senior leadership, product teams, and brand creative partners on our portfolio, trademark strategies and understanding risks.
  • Litigation:
  • Support on trademark litigation and enforcement efforts.

qualifications

  • LL.B, Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal degree is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience practicing trademark law as a lawyer, preferably in-house or in a law firm setting.
  • Additional registered trademark agent qualification strongly preferred.
  • Experience with trademark oppositions and litigation strongly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of global IP law, with experience in jurisdictions including China, the United States, the Middle East, and Europe.
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement experience. Ability to communicate complex legal issues into consistent, understandable, and actionable advice for creative designers and brand marketers.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement effective clearance and training programs.

Authorization to work in Canada is required for this role.Compensation and Benefits Packagelululemon’s compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $128,900 – $169,200 annually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.
