Lower Wye Nature Recovery Officer
Looking to deliver innovative nature recovery projects in an outstanding landscape? Help build
on the successes of Wye Valley National Landscape Partnership, working with land managers and
the public to build nature recovery networks and develop biodiversity and landscape
enhancements in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The post will be based within the Wye Valley National Landscape Team who deliver partnership
projects across this AONB.
About the role :
You will support and assist the Wye Valley National Landscape Partnership in furthering and
finalising the Species Action Plans and delivering nature recovery projects and initiatives.
You will be part of the dedicated National Landscape Team and work with public, private and
voluntary sector interested parties including landowners, land managers and local communities.
This includes a focus on assisting delivery of the Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) and
Sustainable Landscape Sustainable Places (SLSP) programme in the Monmouthshire part of the
AONB. Through your responsibilities, you are expected to help progress DEFRA’s 25 Year
Environment Plan and the Welsh Government’s priorities for Resilient AONBs and National Parks,
supporting Biodiversity, Decarbonisation and Sustainable Tourism. The National Landscape
Partnership can draw on technical advice through local partners and the national network of
AONBs and National Parks. Key local partners include the 3 local Wildlife Trust, 4 local
authorities, Monmouthshire & Herefordshire Meadows networks, National Farmers Union,
Natural England and Natural Resources Wales, Woodland Trust, and the Wye & Usk Foundation.
The Purpose of this Role :
To assist the National Landscape Team in delivering activities focusing on
- Work to progress the AONB Species Action Plans, AONB Nature Recovery Plan and
implementation of the Wye Valley AONB Management Plan. - Habitat restoration through Nature Recovery projects, Green Infrastructure & the
Sustainable Management of Natural Resources (SMNR) - Working with farmers, landowners, tourism enterprises, local communities and volunteers in
and around the National Landscape - Collaboration with partners including local and national conservation agencies and
organisations, including Natural England, Natural Resources Wales (NRW), local authorities,
county Wildlife Trusts and the Woodland Trust - Promotion & facilitation in the Monmouthshire part of the AONB of the AONB Sustainable
Development Fund (SDF) and the Sustainable Landscapes Sustainable Places (SLSP) programme
funded by Welsh Government.
