We are devoted to making “Safety… Our Way of Life”.Summary:Under the direction of the Director, SBE, or their delegate, the Maintenance Superintendent will be responsible for managing the Fort McKay Group of Companies (FMGOC) maintenance shop, activities, contractors, vendors and subcontractors. The incumbent is responsible for leading and supporting all Heavy Equipment Technicians at their locations and tasked with achieving the highest standards in terms of safety performance including relevant regulations and processes, mechanical availability and minimizing the overall cost per hour of the equipment.This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment/pre-access testingKey Focus:

  • Ensure the utmost compliance of to all industry regulation and safety.
  • Manage and implement the Fort McKay group of company’s safety program regarding any Maintenance activities at the yard, site and shop.
  • Initiate any changes or additions needed regarding SOP’s and JHA’s with vendors, and FMGOC HSE Department. This includes daily and weekly inspections.
  • Ensure the FMGOC disciplinary policy is followed and documented.
  • Coordinate, schedule and be ultimately responsible for the performance of all activities in the Fort McKay assigned site, yard and shop. This includes providing schedule updates, managing capital and parts requests, evaluating man hours to plan, and achieving the key performance indicators of man hour repair time per piece and total maintenance cost per hour.
  • Ensure manpower schedule is created and maintained and inline to shop schedule and forecasted equipment overhauls including a 2 month look ahead of manpower needs according to schedule.
  • Create and maintain the yearly budget the overall operating budget for the Fort McKay yard and shop. Identify needs and opportunities.
  • Provide insights to the Director, SBE or delegate of improved scheduling opportunities and/or cost minimizations.
  • Manage the team of contractors, subcontractors, and vendors as well as employees as one team. This includes recruiting, training and evaluation as needed. Coordinate with Human Resources to ensure competency. Provide mentorship for apprenticeships as required.
  • Provide best-practice insights to the Director or designate, collaborating to resolve issues with the teams regarding work required and performed.
  • Develop maintenance strategies which includes physical availability of vehicles or equipment, reliability, cost-effectiveness of repairs, and total cost of ownership. Ensure equipment utilization is maximized and downtime of all equipment is minimal.
  • Develop and maintain relationship with vendors and suppliers, managing issues regarding manpower or vendor to ensure that the overall performance of the shop and yard is achieved.
  • Ensure all equipment documentation is complete, (insurance, CVIPS, licenses, permits, registration, etc.) and all incoming and outgoing vehicle inspections are performed and documented.
  • Ensure all Health and Safety compliance is maintained within team and company.
  • Assist with used equipment inspections and refurbishments as required.
  • Perform any related and/or additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Completion of a High School Diploma, or a GED equivalent is required. Journeyman Heavy-Duty Technician, Journeyman Parts Person, or post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering is an asset.
  • Class 5 License (or equivalent) is required, along with a satisfactory 3-year Drivers Abstract.
  • CSTS/ CSO/BSO is required.
  • Knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook is required. Experience in SAP is considered an asset.
  • 10+ years of experience is required. Experience in Joint Ventures is required, with strong experience in building and managing maintenance teams.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including good oral, written communication, and listening skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Demonstrates continuous learning through cross-training, learning new skills, and refreshing prior skills.
  • Must have strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including personal safety, safety of co-workers, and the protection of FMGOC and client’s property in accordance and compliance with company practices, industry standards, and government regulations.
  • Good time management skills.

This is a full time position located north of Fort McMurray, at the Fort McKay Industrial Park and/or Kearl LakeShift pattern: 14 days on/14 days off – Day shifts only (12 hours per day).What we offer:
