This role requires expertise and a proficiency in the areas of corporate reputation research, website usability, plain language writing, marketing, communications, graphic design, developing strong narratives and an ability to execute against extremely tight deadlines. This role requires the ability to make decisions quickly in order to make tight timelines when guidance and approvals are not available. The result of a poor decision can be seen by the content of HydroOne.com which has more than 2 million page views per month. Ultimately the role is accountable should misrepresentation in public take place on any of Hydro One’s communications platforms.Job Description: * Lead the development and execution of Hydro One’s external communications plans, strategies, programs and initiatives in support of the Company’s multi-million dollar customer, digital and communication strategies.

  • Influence business decisions related to the Company’s customer and issues management strategy by leading a corporate reputation, customer research strategy.
  • Advance the Company’s corporate reputation by developing and managing research that enables the company to track and report reputation and build research-based communications strategies, programs and tactics that improve corporate reputation.
  • Manage contracts with external vendors in excess of $3 million
  • Provide external communications support to various lines of businesses by ensuring the programs meet their goals, enable process redesign, the improvement and implementation of change programs and ensure that programs are clearly understood by external stakeholders, customers and key employees
  • Manage confidential, time-sensitive Company projects related to Company announcements, projects and plans.
  • Use extensive knowledge of Hydro One’s brand to effectively manage all of Hydro One’s external communications platforms: including HydroOne.com, the bill channel, advertising, customer communications, call centre scripting and messaging, recruiting messages and LOB communications.
  • Interface with other LDCs, stakesholders and government agencies to ensure support/understanding of communications deliverables
  • Accountable for the development of the annual report, customer communication and collateral, web strategy and development, public relations, employee communications, special events, corporate branding and graphic design, speech writing, newsletters and advertising. -Develop plans in collaboration with Investor Relations, Conservation and Demand Management, Public Affairs, Media Relations, Customer Operations, and other departments and groups as necessary.
  • Develop surveys and other feedback mechanisms for customer feedback and events
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Electricity Discovery Centre and staff, work with municipalities and external stakeholders – ROMA, OGRA, to ensure representation as appropriate.
  • Provide analysis and reporting for EDC, communications channels, including summarizing input and recommendations for future planning.
  • Organize the coordinate the company’s participation in a wide range of public events including community events, fairs, trade shows.
  • Lead the development and implementation of all of Hydro One’s external communications platforms including: including HydroOne.com, the bill channel, advertising, customer communications and LOB communications.
  • Make effective recommendations on human resource issues, including career counseling, hiring, discharge, interviewing, and discipline and resolving work performance problems.
  • Train all staff on best-in-class practices for communications and ensure they are equipped with messaging before speaking with customers.
  • Work with the Manager, Public Affairs to develop public consultation materials, including display boards, info sheets and presentations
  • Develop, promote and maintain communication policies and strategies related to Hydro One standards for all communication activities, events and products.
  • Provide advice and operational support to management in the development of the Company’s strategic communications positions, consultation strategies, key messages, and background briefing material on corporate and Business Unit issues.
  • Act as a conduit between the Company and customers and communities to engender awareness of, and support for various Company projects, programs and initiatives. Ensure relationships are managed in a manner that enhances and/or improves the Company’s corporate reputation. -Initiate programs to earn customer respect and confidence.
  • Develop and manage all aspects of the Corporate brand and logo use with legal.
  • Lead, develop and manage customer communications in support of the acquisition and transition of newly acquired utilities.
  • Lead, develop and coordinate the production of graphic and narrative presentations. Write clear and compelling communications materials including, but to limited to: correspondence, reports, newsletters, bill messages, bill channel inserts, IVR messaging, call centre scripting, brochures.
  • Procure services of external suppliers (e.g., consultants, freelance writers, creative agencies) and contracts development of communications products and services pursuant to the Company’s procurement policy.
  • Respond to requests for information from multiple sources in a timely and professional manner, ensuring that communication appropriate resolves issues and presents the Company in the best possible light.
  • Manage project budges and maximize the impact of each dollar, including negotiating best rates from external service deliverers where applicable
