Come and join the Student Recruitment Centre of Expertise and lead the National Recruitment team!The Manager, National Recruitment position is an integral part of the leadership team within the Student Recruitment Centre of Expertise, which connects undergraduate recruitment activities within the university to ensure the effective support of our ambitious institutional enrolment goals. Reporting to the Student Recruitment Director, the Manager, National Recruitment is responsible for guiding and leading a team of 13 staff, as well as creating in-person and virtual tactical plans that support the recruitment of prospective students from across Canada, providing excellence in service to their influencers, such as high school counsellors, parents, and supporters. This position will also oversee the UAlberta Ambassador program, which leads over 100 volunteers dedicated to welcoming prospective students and their guests to our campuses through leading campus and residence tours, as well as providing triage support within the Student Service Centre. In all facets of this role, the Manager, National Recruitment endeavours to integrate and advance the University’s commitment to equity, diversity, inclusivity, and indigenization.The Manager, National Recruitment will collaborate with other leadership and staff positions within the Student Recruitment Center of Expertise to harmonize and align tactical strategies and plans with the coordinated recruitment strategy within the Student Recruitment Centre of Expertise. This position provides leadership in the design and delivery of services for all portfolios within the National Recruitment team, such as domestic recruitment, international students studying in Canada, Open House and other on-campus events, the Campus Visits Program, and the UAlberta Ambassador program.Duties
- Allocate and monitor assigned resources and budgets effectively to achieve expected results.
- Provide leadership to a team of 13 staff, which includes hiring, training, mentoring, coaching, motivating, and providing feedback.
- Clearly communicate the strategic objectives of the Student Recruitment Centre of Expertise to staff and work with them to define operational and short-term action plans that align with these objectives.
- Oversee the management of the UAlberta Ambassador and Campus Visit Programs, which provides opportunities to explore the university campuses to prospective students, parents, counselors, alumni, and the general public.
- Compile and utilize recruitment-related data to manage the recruitment funnel for National Recruitment in alignment with institutional strategies; research best practices in student recruitment for both domestic and international students studying in Canada.
- Lead the identification of business needs and issues associated with volunteer management, campus visits, and national recruitment tools, participating in the deployment of technology to improve services to prospective students.
- Evaluate current recruitment activities for the purpose of continuous improvement and increase yield outcomes.
- Provides expert advice to the Student Recruitment Director on all matters related to domestic recruitment and volunteer management.
- Provides content expertise in the development of marketing strategies, and coordinates with the recruitment-specific Marketing team to create and deliver marketing strategies that are relevant for all client groups.
- Develops and maintains partnerships between the university, school systems, alumni, community partners, and other groups who have the potential to promote the University, in coordination with leadership within the Centre of Expertise.
- Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with fellow Student Recruitment Service Partners, International, Recruitment, Indigenous Recruitment, Admissions, Student Financial Support, Residence Services, and the Student Services Centre team to ensure you are able to advocate and deliver solutions necessary to meet undergraduate enrolment goals.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- A passion for student recruitment, service excellence, an inherent drive to add value, and a deep-rooted belief that our collective purpose is to serve the University of Alberta, its prospective students, and their influencers.
- A comprehensive understanding of prospective undergraduate student recruitment and retention best practices.
- Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience, ideally in the field of Student Recruitment.
- Progressively responsible supervisory experience with a strong commitment to service.
- A dynamic leader with a demonstrated ability to lead staff and inspire optimal team performance.
- Superb presentation and written communication skills that influence and inspire prospective students and build trust-based relationships with colleagues and partners.
- Ability to develop and maintain high levels of trust and credibility, act with integrity and tact, and demonstrate respect and empathy.
- Evolved problem-solving and critical thinking skills to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, assess consequences of proposed actions, choose the most appropriate solution, and implement successfully.
- The ability to act decisively, exercising initiative and strong judgment on a wide range of issues.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, manage diversity, manage change, and establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the University of Alberta’s policies, procedures, and operations.
- Familiarity with secondary and post-secondary education systems throughout Canada.
- Familiarity with Slate.
