You must be able to supervise the production of daily news content for TV, radio and digital. Experience as a reporter or producer and in-depth knowledge of all our platforms is a definite asset for this role.You must also bring confident, positive leadership and strong interpersonal skills in order to maintain a harmonious workplace. You will be required to support teams on a daily basis, ensuring compliance with Journalistic Standards and Practices as well as management directions.Team members reporting to you (directly or indirectly):Senior news producers.Assignment producer.Producer/hosts for Le Téléjournal newscasts.Editor/presenters for blended radio newscasts.Daily news reporters and videojournalists.Key responsibilities:Communicate overall strategic objectives, as well as more specific objectives related to News & Current Affairs and editorial practices.Develop an action plan for achieving those objectives and follow up with teams.Constantly monitor the work of reporters, radio rundown producers and Téléjournal hosts to ensure alignment with the editorial vision.Support, guide, engage and motivate journalistic staff to suggest and develop relevant news features for Canadians.Ensure optimal reach for multiplatform content.Coach reporters on a daily basis.Occasionally attend daily story meetings.Review TV newscasts, items and other news programming with a critical eye to provide teams with feedback and ensure quality control.Respond to audience complaints related to the Journalistic Standards and Practices (JSP) in conjunction with Legal Services and the Ombudsman. Act as the single point of expert contact with Legal Services.Stay within your department’s assigned budget.Identify and arrange the necessary training for team members.Participate in the performance management process for staff and suggest ways to improve performance.Supervise new hires and interns, support the smooth operation of teams on a daily basis and ensure that technical needs are met.Help schedule annual leave and backfill for news staff (in consultation with the leadership team and executive producers from other teams).Help prepare coverage plans and large-scale deployments, and supervise leaders in their planning process.Ensure that the quantity and quality of content under your supervision complies with Radio-Canada mandates and CRTC requirements.Maintain relationships and collaborate with partners from other divisions (Communications, Finance, Human Resources and other regional stations).Sit on local, regional and national committees upon request and perform any other task assigned by management.What you bring:Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field and ten (10) years’ journalism experienceAdvanced knowledge of multiplatform journalismThorough knowledge of the Journalistic Standards and Practices (JSP) and its application, as well as story treatmentBold, agile and creative mind to develop innovative solutions, evaluate workflows and create new processesKnowledge of effective management and change-management techniquesLeadership skills to engage and inspire creative, self-motivated teamsExcellent knowledge of FrenchAdvanced oral, writing and reading proficiency in EnglishProven track record in supporting employee development and providing constructive feedbackAbility to deal with confidential mattersAbility to think laterally to manage a wide range of circumstances every dayYou will be required to be on call to respond to editorial emergencies in a timely manner.Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.CBC/Radio-Canada is committed to being a leader in reflecting our country’s diversity.
