Position SummaryThe Hospital is seeking a permanent Full Time Manager, Volunteer Services.Effective Date: March 24, 2025The Manager, Volunteer Services will provide direction, leadership, support and guidance in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations and planning of the Volunteer Services, and Spiritual Care areas in accordance with the strategic directions of the Hospital and to facilitate the ongoing development of volunteers and spiritual care staff. Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Manager, Volunteer Services will be an excellent communicator and relationship builder, and will manage oversight of the team, and designated programs throughout the Hospital.Responsibilities
Program Planning and Evaluation:
- Guides the development of goals and objectives for the services within Volunteer Services and Spiritual Care to ensure that these are aligned with corporate priorities and initiatives.
- Organizes an evaluation procedure for service delivery and maintains accurate records of volunteer activities.
- Ensures the development of quality improvement initiatives, including accreditation preparedness activities for the services within Volunteer Services and Spiritual Care.
- Develops and maintains departmental policies and procedures in consultation with Human Resources.
Resource Management:
- Ensures the development of appropriate staff recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies for the services within Volunteer Services, Retail Shops, and Spiritual Care.
- Organizes educational opportunities for the volunteers, as applicable.
- Scheduling of volunteers and spiritual care providers.
- Provides direct and indirect supervision and on-going support to volunteers and participates in volunteer fundraising activities.
- Plans, implements and carries out formal volunteer recognition events.
Communication:
- Maintains a line of communication with leadership and front-line staff regarding the programs.
- Maintains on-going contact with peers in like positions throughout the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge region and the province.
- Provides timely information to HR leadership on internal/external issues which affect or may affect volunteer resources and spiritual care and/or the Hospital to identify potential actions/responses to those issues.
- Leads and nurtures a work culture that promotes open, frequent and dynamic communication, stimulating teamwork with a customer focus to accomplish goals and objectives.
Essential Qualifications
- Degree in Human Services and/or related experience
- Active membership within one or more relevant professional associations
- 3-5 years’ supervisory experience
- Experience in working with volunteers
- Appreciation and understanding of volunteer services from previous personal experience
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite and other related programs
- Demonstrated experience setting up and hosting virtual meetings on various platforms
- Demonstrated expertise in program planning, development and evaluation
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with volunteers, management, staff, and the community
- Demonstrated human resources management, leadership and coaching skills
- Excellent organizational and planning skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated change management and conflict resolutions skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated financial acumen. Maintains and applies a broad understanding of financial management principles to manage budget and ensure decisions are fiscally sound and responsible
- Ability to be self-directed, show initiative, and also work effectively as part of a team
- Must be able to fulfill the physical requirements of the job, as per the current Physical Demands Analysis
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate in Volunteer Management
- Professional Association of Volunteer Leaders – Ontario (PAVRO) Certification
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting would be an asset
Hours of WorkMust be available days Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
