The opportunityOur manufacturing client is looking for a Material Planning Manager. Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain Planning, you will oversee the timely flow of materials into two production facilities. As a strategic and tactical leader, you will optimize inventory levels, mitigate supply disruptions, and collaborate cross-functionally to drive efficiency. You will work closely with Production Planning, New Product Introduction, Commercial, Procurement, and Quality Assurance teams to replenish materials with adequate time buffers, ensuring the smooth execution of manufacturing work orders. Leading a team of six direct reports across two sites, you will ensure seamless material availability to support production schedules while minimizing costs and waste.This full-time hybrid role requires at least three days onsite at their production facility in the west end.Why join?This is an exciting career move to a scaling organization with high standards, complex material lists, and cutting-edge production sites.   • Oversee material replenishment planning. You will ensure the accuracy of material planning data for managing a highly complex and varied list of materials within the ERP system, issue purchase orders with appropriate lead times, and proactively address potential supply disruptions caused by vendor stockouts, transit delays, customs inspections, and market shortages. You will monitor and manage inventory levels, implementing measures to reduce excess stock, expired materials, and obsolete inventory.
  • Drive new product introduction. You will support new product launches by collaborating with the Production Planning and Commercial teams, providing input on feasibility and timelines for new product introductions. You will work with Procurement to optimize vendor minimum order quantities for slow-moving or short-shelf-life materials.
  • Mitigate supply disruptions. You will react effectively to changes in market demand and lead cross-functional decision-making that supports the company’s overall objectives. You will design, implement, and sustain a supply risk management program to proactively identify and mitigate supply disruptions caused by market shortages, transportation delays, and vendor stockouts.
  • Support Inventory governance. You will monitor inventory levels for raw materials and packaging, ensuring they align with budgeted targets and minimizing obsolescence and expiries.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and procurement. You will partner with Procurement to establish reliable supply sources and negotiate favourable terms. You will develop and implement contingency plans for supply chain disruptions, including alternative suppliers and material substitutions.
  • Monitor and communicate supply chain performance. You will define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as material availability, vendor performance, inventory days on hand, and inventory write-offs. You will lead performance review meetings, identifying and addressing deviations from targets.
  • Coach and develop the Material Planning team. You will lead the Material Planning team in aligning material availability with production schedules. You will provide individualized coaching through regular one-on-one meetings. Building a culture of high performance, accountability, and collaboration, you will foster skill development through training, best practice sharing, and continuous learning initiatives.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives. You will identify and execute process and tool improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the team and across departments. You will manage continuous improvement projects from concept to implementation, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Support functional strategy execution. You will translate corporate strategy into actionable supply chain planning initiatives. You will provide insights and feedback on functional strategy, contributing to developing and implementing best practices, processes, and operational standards.
  • Mitigate supply disruptions. You will react effectively to changes in market demand and lead cross-functional decision-making that supports the company’s overall objectives. You have:

  • The experience. You have a background in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, and Business Process Management with expertise in material planning, international logistics, and supply chain processes. You have a track record of implementing standardized processes and leading organizational change and a proven ability to coach and develop teams.
  • The technical skills. You are a strong analytical thinker who can work with fragmented data and extract actionable insights. You are a Microsoft Excel power user experienced with Power Query inside a relational database. You have strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems with in-depth expertise in Master Data, Bill of Materials, and MRP logic. You have experience in inventory management, including setting inventory budgets and targets and mitigating supply chain risks.
  • The leadership. You are a proven leader with experience managing a large team and leading cross-functional collaboration. You take ownership and accountability for your team’s success and can build a self-sufficient team that operates effectively even in your absence. You can coach and develop team members, providing mentorship, managing conflicts, and fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. You can influence and manage change, drawing on your technical expertise to assign, guide, and oversee work. You champion the team’s efforts and remove barriers to enable their best performance.
  • The project management skills. You can balance competing deadlines, set and adapt timelines, solve practical problems and deal with complex variables in situations under pressure. You are proactive and can balance long-term goals with immediate priorities.
  • The strategic mindset. You are curious, have excellent problem-solving skills, and are eager to explore and solve complex supply chain challenges. You are a systems thinker who understands how different processes and teams interact within the supply chain. You have excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize competing tasks. You are continuously learning and seeking opportunities to improve processes and skills.
  • The interpersonal skills. You have professional verbal and written communication skills. You can effectively translate complex data into actionable insights. You can build trusting collaborative relationships, influencing and managing change across teams and levels. You appreciate diverse perspectives and experiences, taking feedback and supporting the work of others.
