The role

The media sector is a key industry for Hiscox UK where our team of four underwriters primarily work to offer media liability and other ancillary covers to insureds in this space. We have been providing insurance solutions to this demographic since 1994 and the account spans a broad range of insureds from multi-national broadcasters to individual marketing consultants (and everything in between!)

Working within the Specialty team you will responsible for driving the profitable growth of our media business at a time when we have ambitious growth plans. You will join an established and high performing team who operate within a fast paced environment. You will need lots of energy to contribute to our winning team whilst driving your own relationships (internal & external) and pipeline. You will be involved in product development, case and portfolio underwriting and dealing with some of the largest clients and brokers in the media sector. It is therefore essential that you are technically astute, have strong relationship management skills and are driven by an exceptional service ethic.

What you’ll be doing

Underwriting: 

• Profitable case underwriting of new, mid-term and existing business
• Effectively negotiate with both internal and external parties
• Broker and client visits as required on new and existing cases
• Handle media referrals from UK regional offices & portfolio underwriters and assist in writing media business regionally
• Write a targeted amount of new and existing business each year including cross-sell and up-sell
• Optimise your conversion, profit and productivity whilst maintaining the target underwriting model 
• Product & wording development, keeping abreast of new risks and exposures within the sector to ensure Hiscox market leading position is maintained

Pro-active internal & external development:

• Increase Hiscox’s profile both internally and externally in the Media sector
• Develop a strong new business pipeline; including individual large prospects
• Forge strong professional relationships with our key brokers
• Keep abreast of the competitive landscape from market moves to new product launches
• Promote and develop media products in the regional offices, including training of local underwriters and brokers as required
• A deep understanding of your brokers and the development opportunities in the media sector
• Continually improve your broker and customer interactions using the Hiscox coaching framework

Superb service:

• Be a trusted advisor for our brokers, become their go to Underwriter in the market

Our must haves

• A keen interest in the media and creative sector
• A background of writing Professional Indemnity. Experience of writing media business would be an advantage but is not essential for the right candidate.
• You’ll be a brand advocate for developing our media proposition across products & wordings, pricing and the portfolio and will possess a desire to improve on everything
• The know how to keep abreast of new risks and exposures within the sector to ensure Hiscox market leading position is maintained
• A unique blend of technical expertise plus softer relationship and positive influencing capability
• Lead other underwriters within the media field through product and sales coaching and taking complex referrals
• Experience in providing superb service whilst managing lots of work and changing priorities at once
• Challenge convention on a regular basis and able to take decisive action on conversion, profit, loss and productivity whilst maintaining the target underwriting model 
• A proven track record of business development and technical underwriting skills, with close attention to detail
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
• Enjoy building strong relationships, seeking out new opportunities and being a trusted advisor for your brokers and clients
• ACII qualification or willingness to progress toward this
