As a Medical Assistance Supervisor within the HOPE Center at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting the lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.Job ResponsibilitiesSupervises, guides, and/or instructs the work assignments of subordinate staff. Performs administrative and supervisory duties. Performs clinical duties under the direct supervision of the physician on duty. Handles duties including scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, recording vital signs, entering medical histories, verifying medications with patients, and preparing patients for exams.Primary Duties & Responsibilities:Serves as the direct supervisor for other medical assistants.Provides support for medical assistants, as needed, with daily operationsPerforms back office medical assistant duties including preparing patients for medical exams, maintaining exam rooms, preparing and administering medication as prescribed by the physicianCollects lab specimens as ordered by the physician for those labs that contracted phlebotomists do not collectProvides patient education for procedures, medications, vaccines, and other medical treatmentProvides training for subordinate staff on proper procedures for day-to-day operationServes as the liaison to the contracted lab service by addressing patient flow issues and reviews billing trailers for the labServes as a liaison to drug manufacturing representatives, coordinating in-service meetings and trainingFacilitates coordination between pharmacies and providers to ensure patients’ access to medication refillsCompletes and submits monthly clinical reports, as assignedMonitors stock and orders medical supplies for the clinicMonitors the schedule for appropriateness of visit typesOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsVocational/Technical degree in medical assisting from an accredited college AND three years of related experience OR High school diploma or GED AND four years related experience.Preferred Qualifications:Previous supervisory experience and experience in infectious disease treatment is preferred.Additional InformationGeorgia Department of Public Health Commissioner and leaders encourages all employees to engage in regular physical activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and well-being.
