The MFP Manager will be responsible for the development of merchandise financial plans that support our short- and long-term merchandising strategy and has a team of Merchandise Financial Planners reporting to them, that support the Merchant organization in-season to deliver our sales, margin and inventory annual plans.Workplace Arrangements: This role is hybrid out of our Ottawa Walkey Road Office.What Giant Tiger Brings:

Merchandise Financial Planning Manager, Role Accountabilities:

  • Oversees a team of planners in the execution of annual financial strategies to optimize sales, gross margin ($ and %) and inventory. Leads the accurate weekly forecasting of sales and margin to identify issues, risks and opportunities to financial plans, provides recommendations and executes actions to course correct. Collaborates and challenges Merchants, Supply Chain, Replenishment and Store Operations partners on current business performance. Provides visibility to Senior Leadership Team on current business results, risks and opportunities
  • In partnership with General Merchandise Managers, develops merchandise financial plans that support Giant Tiger’s long term (2-5 years) strategy. Provides recommendations and changes to current processes and KPI targets.

Oversees the preparation of merchandise plans that support the annual financial plan. * Develops annual inventory strategy for seasonal businesses and ensures execution of markdowns and promotional plans to end seasonal categories on plan. Oversees the Merchandise Financial Planning team in preparing post-mortems, ad hoc analysis and integrates learnings into current and future plans.

  • Ensures that planning tools such as TM1 and the e-markdown system support the needs of the team and business and makes recommendations on enhancements.

Knowledge & Skills Requirements/Qualifications

  • Post secondary education, preferably in Business
  • 5-8 years related experience in the retail industry, preferably with a national retailer
  • 3-5 years of people management experience
  • Extensive knowledge of retail Merchandise Financial Planning process and metrics
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, make recommendations and problem solve
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively, interact and build relationships across all levels of the organization and with key partners
  • Strong ability to present information in an effective and concise manner
  • Strong management skills (coaching, development and training skills) that build effective teams

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of productsAssets

  • Experience with business intelligence software
  • Experience working in a large, multi-site national retailer
  • Bilingual (English/French)
