We acknowledge all Nations who live, work, and play, help us steward this land, and honour and celebrate this place.The OpportunityWe are looking for someone who has experience supporting with music, as well as experience working with lighting, staging, sound departments. This Music Omni Tech position will have a well-rounded background to be able to assist across a variety of technical areas depending on the nature of the production. The Music Omni Tech provides the operational support required for the delivery of Performing Arts Programs and on campus.Role and ResponsibilitiesReporting to Production Manager, Performing Arts, the Sound/Omni Tech will help support this summer’s events. Below are some key accountabilities:
- Provide technical production support for music concerts and a wide variety of other productions including dance, opera, and theatre
- Technically support live music concert performances including string quartets, orchestras, chamber music, new music, rock, pop and others
- Responsible for supporting the integration of department-wide activities; and may be called to support coordination of a highly specialized activity
- Execute all job tasks with attention to safety procedures
- Liaise with other staff to ensure effective support is anticipated and provided to ensure a successful experience for artistic clients, participants and faculty
- Ability to assist with live audio set ups for concerts including setting up and patching microphones and basic troubleshooting
- Ability to assist with wireless microphone system set ups and mic’ing up performers
- Assisting with flipping performance venues to prepare for incoming shows.
- Help ensure shows run smoothly, working in partnership with a variety of technical crews
Qualification and Educational Requirements
- Theatre Practitioner level 2: must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a working practitioner in their discipline within a Theatre or Performing Arts production environment
- Theatre practitioner level 3: must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a working practitioner in their discipline within a Theatre or Performing Arts production environment
- Has completed a formal theatre education
- Experience supporting live music is preferred.
- Experience working in a fly house an asset.
- Must be proficient in the use of computers and multi-media and able to operate specialized equipment
- Must have a working knowledge of the theories and practices that support this discipline
- Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to stay calm under pressure
- Able to work with tight, changing timelines in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledgeable of related industry trends including the application of up to date techniques, and use of special materials and current health and safety standards
- Able to apply professional theatre techniques and methods to provide the quality, efficiency and support level required by Performing Arts
Special Requirements
- Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends.
Employment Terms & Benefits
- In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, hourly support staff position, subject to a 500-hour probationary period.
- Theatre Practitioner Level 2: this position pays between $22.59 and $25.85 per hour working up to 40 hours per week on a rotating schedule.
- Theatre Practitioner Level 3: this position pays between $27.17 and $31.51 per hour working up to 40 hours per week on a rotating schedule.
- We are hiring for two terms: June 22 – August 31, 2025 and July 31 – August 2, 2025
