Numerical Algorithm Software Engineer – El Segundo, CA

SciTec is an industry leader in developing and deploying advanced software for the Department of Defense missile tracking mission. SciTec has an immediate opportunity for a talented Developer/Analyst to support programs focusing on development and integration of satellite ground processing applications at our El Segundo, CA location. This is a unique opportunity to join a small business that provides core capabilities for National Security and Defense. Our teams focus on low-latency data processing, detection, and tracking algorithms for exploitation of remote sensing systems. The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded, analytically minded algorithm developer proficient in C++ and python, work well as a part of a rapid pace, collaborative, small-team environment, and be able to prototype, develop, integrate, and test advanced software solutions into Government frameworks. 

Responsibilities

• Tailor and adapt existing C++ data processing code for mission specific applications
• Demonstrate fluent, idiomatic mastery of Python and C++ 20/23; comfortable with software design and architecture
• Develop proof-of-concept signal processing, image processing, and data exploitation tools in Python
• Characterize quality/performance of algorithms and sensor systems
• Develop new software for complex processing algorithms using both open source and internally developed libraries and APIs
• Algorithm development and analysis
• Build and deploy new tools for testing, debugging, and benchmarking
• Compile, analyze, and report application performance metrics
• Work as part of an Agile team and contribute to shared tools
• Work with Industry and Government partners to develop, document, and support integration and testing
• Document requirements, designs, and performance metrics for presentation and reporting to industry partners and government customers
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

The following minimum qualifications are required for the position

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or related field
• Demonstrated proficiency and fluency with C++ 20/23 and Python
• Professional experience with Bayesian statistics, Kalman filters, state estimation, detection and tracking, or guidance, navigation and control (GNC)
• Experience using Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience deploying and managing applications in AWS or Azure
• 3-5 years professional experience in scientific data analysis
• Demonstrated ability to perform independent analysis on complex software systems
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Experience presenting data to customers and other stakeholders
• Ability to work on-site at our El Segundo, CA office location
• Ability to obtain and maintain an active Department of Defense security clearance
• Detail oriented

Candidates who have any of the following skills will be preferred.

• Current DoD TOP SECRET security clearance
• An advanced degree in physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, or computer science.
• Experience with the exploitation of OPIR, E/O, SAR, Spectral, RF, or other remotely sensed data
• Strong understanding and experience with modern object-oriented design, inheritance patters, and SOLID principles
• Professional experience with application orchestration and/or deployment to the cloud
• Professional experience with Agile software development
• Fluency in MATLAB and/or Rust

The pay range for this position is $96,000-$115,000/year. SciTec considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including but not limited to the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
