Under limited supervision, is responsible for providing therapeutic nutrition services for clients with high risk and/or complex nutrition-related medical conditions. Develops nutrition care plans for high-risk patient referrals and approve special and metabolic formulas. Participates in quality assurance processes for nutrition services. This is a regional Registered Dietitian position with the WIC program. The headquarters is negotiable within the Lowcountry region. This is a hybrid remote position with the requirement to report to headquarters or other DPH office within the 11 county Lowcountry region at least one time per week and as needed for duties such as management of therapeutic formula, program and staff meetings, and obtaining WIC participant anthropometrics for nutrition assessment.Job Duty – Nutrition Care: Assesses and diagnoses the nutritional status of clients with high risk and/or complex nutrition-related medical conditions referred from WIC, MCH programs, as well as other health care providers. Develops and implements nutrition interventions including counseling, follow-up, referral, and coordination of care with other health care providers. Provides and documents care utilizing the Nutrition Care Process and according to program policy.Job Duty – Food Packages and Special Formulas: Approves, documents, distributes and tracks special and metabolic formulas per program policy and procedures. Orders special and metabolic formulas for drop shipment to clinics. Provides consultation and technical assistance related to special formulas to staff and health care providers. Enters, updates, and issues food benefits for high-risk clients and clients receiving special formulas.Job Duty – Consultation, Technical Assistance and Outreach: Provides professional expertise, consultation and technical expertise and assistance to health care team members, health care providers, community organizations, staff, and the public. Participates in the orientation, and training of nutrition staff as requested. Serves as a preceptor for dietetic interns completing supervised professional practice experiences in the region.Job Duty – Quality Assurance: Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of WIC/ MCH nutrition services. Assists with quality assurance processes for WIC program nutrition services, i.e., RD high risk documentation, WIC certifications, nutrition education, and special formulas.Job Duty – Professional Development and Training: Updates professional skills and knowledge to assure delivery of quality nutrition services. Participates in continuing education opportunities. Completes and maintains advance certification (s) required for the position. Participates in Disaster Preparedness and Response as indicated. Maintains adequate training for Disaster Response Role. Performs other duties as assigned.State Minimum Requirements: Some positions require registration or eligibility for registration by the American Dietetics Association. A bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics or community nutrition and experience in a clinical, public health or institutional setting; or a bachelor’s degree in any field, eligibility for registration by the American Dietetics Association and experience in a clinical, public health or institutional setting.Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.Agency Additional Requirements: Some positions require registration or eligibility for registration by the American Dietetics Association. Advanced level of knowledge and skill in nutrition assessment, nutrition care planning, case management and care coordination, management of nutrition services required for problem diagnosis, counseling, and evaluation of clients from diverse backgrounds and in developing care plans for clients with multiple and complex health and therapeutic nutrition needs. Has the ability to work effectively with people from a variety of socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, and educational backgrounds. Advanced, in-depth expertise in a specialty area may be required for some positions. Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the health care team, other health care providers and public. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and good interpersonal skills.The employee must have a valid SC Driver’s License and be willing to use their personal vehicle to travel to clinic sites in the region. The standard work week is 37.5 hours and may require some flexibility to meet the needs of clients and staff health clinics, including evening and weekends. Must be able to lift 30 pounds. The employee must participate in preparation and response to emergencies/disasters as required by supervisor, region public health director and/or agency director.Employee is considered on-call during times of disaster/emergency and is expected to report for Disaster Roles within the Region and State as needed.
