The RoleThere is an excellent opportunity for a Band 5 occupational therapist with an interest in working in a physical setting to join our team and work as a member of staff on our comprehensive rotation programme within NHS Lanarkshire Occupational Therapy services in both acute and community settings.We tailor our rotational opportunities to meet you career development needs, with opportunities to gain experience in a number of acute and community rotations across both North and South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnerships including:

  • Surgical
  • Care of the Elderly
  • Medical
  • A&E/ acute medical receiving
  • Trauma & Elective

Orthopaedics

  • Acute Stroke
  • Community Rehabilitation Teams
  • Brain Injury
  • Rheumatology
  • Vascular
  • Hand Therapy

We are looking for individuals who will provide occupational therapy assessment, treatment, discharge planning and onward referral, facilitating high quality treatment with the interdisciplinary team working in partnership with all agencies providing care and support for diverse patient groups.This is an ideal position for an Occupational Therapist wishing to gain experience in a variety of clinical areas. As a Band 5 OT, you be fully supported by senior staff. You will be offered a variety of learning opportunities and be fully involved in the development of the service within your team as well as supporting change and development across the wider OT services across Lanarkshire.In line with the evidence base and the strategic direction of NHS Lanarkshire, we are moving towards 7 day working. This is for improved patient outcomes and to maximise a person-centred equitable approach to care. Therefore, all new contracts will be for a 5 out of 7 days service rota to enable the service to move to a safe and effective 7 day service.You can expect to be fully supported through our established system of supervision and personal development planning. We are fully committed to MDT working, clinical governance, CPD and evidence based practice. We fully support undergraduate OT training programmes and regularly accept students on practice placements.Applications are welcomed from newly qualified Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapists with some experience and Occupational Therapy students in the final stages of their undergraduate studies. Support and mentorship will be provided to help you develop into the role of a newly qualified practitioner. We are committed to supporting graduates to reach their full potential in a supportive learning environment.As community rotations are included, applicants must hold a valid UK driving license and have access to a carAs per agreement between different authorities, if the successful candidate is still in full time education, they will be able to work up to a maximum of 15 hours per week. After they complete all relevant coursework/placement, the contract will change to the hours agreed between the employee and line manager, details are outlined below.As part of your conditional offer with NHS Lanarkshire, the successful candidate will be considered for the band 4 Generic Assistant Practitioner programme, when pre-employment checks are complete and deemed satisfactory.On confirmation of your HCPC PIN registration your salary will be amended to Occupational Therapist Band 5, reflecting the change of role to Occupational Therapist and the date of commencement.   • Registered Occupational Therapist with valid HCPC Registration
  • Knowledge of application of the theory underpinning OT practice
  • The post holder will be required to demonstrate excellent team working skills with the ability to work using own initiative
  • Effective listening, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Working knowledge of basic information technology
  • Flexible working patterns to meet the requirements of the post
  • Car Driver with a valid a full, valid UK/EU/EEA licence

It would be great if you also have

  • OT Practice Education Course and experience as a student practice educator
  • Previous voluntary or employment experience or research proposal/project relevant to the post
  • Basic knowledge of legislation, policy and procedures which impact on practice
