An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated part time 0.50 wte Band 5 Orthoptist (9 month fixed term contract to cover Maternity Leave) – with excellent interpersonal skills, to join our friendly innovative team based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital (RSUH). Services are provided at RSUH, County Hospital, community outreach clinics and orthoptic led vision screening.Our department is very proactive and we are always looking improve the service offered to our patients. Some of our specialist orthoptic services are: stroke, neuro-ophthalmology, TED, Botox, SEN, disc/IIH assessment (for which we recently won the Improving Together prize at our staff awards).The post holder will work alongside 13 orthoptists, 2 orthoptic assistant, 2 clerical staff and will work closely with 2 paediatric Consultant Ophthalmologists – as well as 10 other consultant ophthalmologists.Main duties of the job
- To provide Orthoptic services as an autonomous practitioner.
- To assess, diagnose and manage patients referred to the Orthoptic Department
- To work as an active member within a multi-disciplinary team.
- To carry out orthoptic vision screening in school reception classes.
- To participate in the theoretical and clinical teaching of orthoptics to medical students, ophthalmic nurses, optometrists and other health professionals visiting the orthoptic department.
- To contribute to departmental audit and research projects.
- Maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills required to practice as an orthoptist and keep a personal professional development portfolio.
- To develop post-qualification clinical skills in conjunction with and under the supervision of Senior Orthoptists.
