The Yorkshire Dales National Park is for everybody. It is a place for activity and adventure,
for mental and physical healing and an inspiration for the enquiring mind. Due to a member of
our team retiring, there’s an opportunity for someone, who is passionate about this purpose, to
join our dedicated and skilled Education, Engagement and Wellbeing team.
About Us
We are the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, an organisation that protects, enhances and
promotes the immense beauty, wildlife and character of the Yorkshire Dales. Set against
expansive heather moorland tops, each valley has its own distinct charm, from crags and
waterfalls to an underground labyrinth of caves.
We are looking for an Outdoor Learning Officer to join our team, on a part time (30.5 hours per
week), permanent basis. You will be based at our Grassington office, with the potential for
some home working.
The current work of the Education, Engagement and Wellbeing team can be viewed on our website
https://www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/park-authority/living-and-working/learning-and-engagement-2/
The Benefits
The Role
You will be leading on the planning, design and delivery of our education programme for schools
and families and will develop creative and innovative ways to connect young people with the
special qualities of the National Park in a way that meets the requirements of the National
Curriculum, benefits their health and wellbeing and encourages pro-environmental behaviour.
You will be required to take part in all aspects of preparation and planning required to enable
you, and the team, to deliver safe, enjoyable and informative activities to school children and
students from early years through to tertiary education. This could include fieldwork sessions,
enquiry based work, classroom based lessons, assemblies, talks and walks.
About you
With a degree in a relevant subject and experience of teaching or leading educational groups
outdoors.
You will have knowledge of the importance of nature connection for young people’s health and
wellbeing and experience of engaging with parents and families.
Access to a car or access to a means of mobility support to meet travel demands of the post is
essential (if driving must have a current valid driving licence and appropriate business
insurance), as you will be required to travel within the Park in order to undertake this post.
Please note due to you primarily working with schools, to facilitate this, the amount of leave
taken during term time is expected to be minimal.
This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
We aspire to have a diverse and inclusive workplace and strongly encourage applicants from all
backgrounds to apply and join us.
We are a Disability Confident employer and guarantee to interview anyone with a disability
whose application meets the essential criteria for the role.
For an informal chat about this vacancy, please contact Kiri Wood,
Education, Engagement and Well-being Manager, on 01756 751623 or email
[email protected].
