The position will require a confident and reliable individual to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities and the successful applicant must be team-orientated and accustomed to working as a team with other lawyers, paraprofessionals and legal support professionals.RESPONSIBILITIES
- Daily file management through all stages of the legal process to ensure compliance with deadlines and court and client requirements
- Communicating directly with clients and opposing parties to coordinate and communicate progress and issue resolution
- Conducting and review due diligence searches and prepare appropriate summary and/or reporting documents
- Preparing various documents and pleadings including demand letters, statutory notices, notices of civil claim, default judgment, application materials and records, etc.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team-oriented environment
- Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision and take initiative as required
- Managing property listings for judicial sales
- E-filing and paper filing court documents as required
- Arranging for service and filing of court documents
- Other duties as required and assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a paralegal working on secured mortgage/foreclosure files on behalf of financial institutions
- Strong understanding of foreclosure processes and related legal terminology
- Strong understanding of the BC Rules of Court
- Paralegal certificate from an accredited post-secondary institution (preferred)
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively, meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Advanced critical and strategic thinking skills
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality
- Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision and take initiative as required
- Ability to foster strong working relationships by working collaboratively in a team setting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and flexibility to learn internal computer systems and processes
- Experience with iManage or other document management systems preferred
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Professional, friendly demeanor with a strong ability to build productive relationships
