Who we’re looking for:Fastfrate Group is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Specialist for our Woodbridge, Ontario, office. You’ll be responsible for working with sensitive data accurately and with confidentiality while completing tasks related to payroll processing, ensuring that employees are paid accurately and on time and that all employee records are accurate.What you’ll do:

  • Process and administer payroll for unionized and non-unionized employees on multiple pay cycles (weekly, biweekly, and semi-monthly).
  • Ensure accurate calculation of wages, overtime, shift premiums, vacation pay, and statutory holiday pay.
  • Maintain compliance with federal and provincial payroll legislation, including the Canada Labour Code and Employment Standards Acts.
  • Ensure adherence to collective agreements for unionized employees, including wage increases, benefits, and deductions.
  • Process new hires, terminations, pay adjustments, and record of employment (ROE) submissions.
  • Reconcile payroll transactions
  • Administer payroll year-end processes, including T4, T4A, RL-1 reporting, and T2200 forms.
  • Process third-party payments and garnishments
  • Process employee enrollments, changes, and terminations in benefits programs.
  • Ensure compliance with collective agreements and company policies regarding benefits entitlements.
  • Process short-term disability payments in payroll.
  • Process union dues, remittances, and other deductions in accordance with agreements.
  • Respond to union inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and contract provisions.
  • Prepare payroll-related reports for finance, HR, and management as required.
  • Assist with payroll audits, internal controls, and compliance reviews.
  • Provide guidance on payroll policies, pay statements, deductions, and legislative requirements.
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records in Dayforce.
  • Support system upgrades, implementation, and testing of new payroll features.
  • Other duties as assigned

Must Haves:

  • Certification in either Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM)
  • Minimum three years working within a Canadian payroll system
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial payroll regulations, including tax regulations and legal requirements
  • Experience working with collective agreements
  • Strong attention to detail is required
  • Exceptional knowledge of accounting policies and practices
  • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of Dayforce is considered an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to integrate new software into a Company
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
