Job Description:Northern Light Inland HospitalDepartment: Physical TherapyPosition is located: Inland Hospital-Waterville, MEWork Type: Full TimeFTE: 1.: 40 hours per weekWork Schedule: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM – BONUS ELIGIBLEEligible for a $7,500.00 (less taxes) sign on bonus, paid out in installments with a work commitment.*NLH member employees and those with a service break less than one year are not eligible for bonus.Summary:Responsible for exercising independent judgment in evaluating, planning, directing and administering physical therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed physician, with accountability if such treatment is not rendered correctly. Administers treatments and physical agents as prescribed by a referring physician in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. The staff therapist exercises independent judgment in coordinating, assigning and supervising responsibilities delegated to supportive staff (RCNA, PTA, PTLA, etc.) The staff therapist participates in operational aspects of the department and maintains performance improvement activities within the department. Ensures that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis. Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training, organizational safety and fire safety programs. As per the Maine Physical Therapy Practice Act, Title 32, Chapter 45-A, Section 3111-3, 3111-5 p 1.: “: Physical Therapist” means a person who practices physical therapy. “Physical Therapy” means the evaluation, treatment, and instruction of human beings to detect, assess, prevent, correct, alleviate and limit physical disability, bodily malfunction, and pain from injury, disease and any other bodily condition, the administration, interpretation, and evaluation of tests and measurements of bodily functions and structures for the purpose of treatment planning, the planning, administration, evaluation, and modification of treatment and instruction, and the use of physical agents and procedures, activities and devices for prevention and therapeutic purposes, and the provision of consultative, educational and other advisory service for the purpose of reducing the incidence and severity of physical disability, bodily malfunction and pain.Responsibilities:Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: 1. Responsible for exercising independent judgment in directing and assigning the significant overall activities of the Physical Therapy Department certified staff, including Physical Therapy Assistants and Physical Therapy Aides and Restorative C.N.A.’s with accountability if such activities are not completed correctly or in a timely fashion. 2. Ability to observe and evaluate treatment effect, recommends change to physician as needed. 3. Ability to perform an appropriate assessment on all patients as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessments as per policy. This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric patients and the general patient population. 4. Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate. 5. Demonstrates knowledge of physical therapy modalities. 6. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family. 7. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety. 8. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care. 9. Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, facility staff and members of the department. 10. Exercises independent judgment in coordinating and assisting with directing patient care to ensure patients’ needs are met and facility policy is followed. 11. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. 12. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. 13. Exercises independent judgment in recommending transfers or discipline of supportive staff, as necessary. 14. Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities. 15. Documentation meets current standards and policies. Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: 1. Assists with orientation and in-service training for certified department staff members, participates in guidance and educational programs. 2. Provides input for peer interviews when hiring new P.T. staff. Exercises independent judgment in providing input for evaluation, performance improvement of P.T. staff and recommends transfers or disciplinary action, as necessary. Professional Requirements: 1. Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean. Adheres to CSI standards of conduct. 2. Completes annual educational requirements. 3. Maintains current knowledge of hospital policy; JCAHO/AOA, federal and state regulations and standards. 4. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. 5. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time. 6. Wears identification while on duty; Signs in and out in RehabWorks department daily. 7. Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion. 8. Attends annual review and departmental in-services, as scheduled. 9. Attends meetings as assigned. 10. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. 11. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. 12. Actively participates in performance improvement activities. 13. Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department. 14. Complies with Inland Hospital Hand Hygiene Standards. 15. Adheres to Inland Hospital Standards of Behavior. 16. Performs other essential duties as assigned.Other Information:Competencies and Skills
